Chapter 57 : Fleeing in Panic
Chapter 57 : Fleeing in Panic
Fleeing in PanicA few seconds later, Cecilia bounced over to them, not having put away her dagger or flintlock pistol. She first exchanged a glance with Gu Yanxi before looking toward the dazed Dawn's Light and, with a hint of apology, said,
"Sorry, I accidentally hit the wrong person just now... are you okay?"
"He's fine. Sister Ce, what is this thing?!"
Before Dawn's Light could answer, Yuewu approached, eyes shining, and tightly grasped the flintlock pistol in Cecilia's hand.
All girls are naturally attracted to ornate and exquisite things, and Yuewu was no exception.
However, her secret caressing of Cecilia's hand didn't escape Gu Yanxi's sharp gaze. Her look toward Yuewu became even more disapproving.
"Careful, it might go off,"
Cecilia reminded Yuewu. Seeing Gu Yanxi's discontented expression, she added in a faint voice, "Maybe I should just shoot you dead with one shot."
"No, no, no! It's all a misunderstanding!"
Upon hearing this, Yuewu hurriedly let go, chuckled awkwardly, and took two steps back.
Everyone had already witnessed the power of this gun. Even from such a distance, it nearly killed Dawn's Light, whose defense was the highest among them, let alone herself—a mage.
If she got shot at close range, being blown to pieces would be considered lucky.
At this moment, Dawn's Light finally shook off his earlier shock. Staring at the flintlock in Cecilia's hand, the first question he asked was,
"Wait, what is that? A pistol? Did you turn on some kind of cheat? Where did you get it?"
A barrage of questions left Cecilia unsure where to start answering.
But no one could really blame Dawn's Light for his reaction. After all, the appearance of that gun was too bizarre; anyone would react just like him.
If Legend of Kaloran were a shooter game, nobody would be surprised by whatever weapon a player used. But it was clearly a fantasy game, where even a Sharpshooter could only use bows and other cold weapons to fight.
Everyone followed the rules, obediently exchanging arrows and magic. Then, out of nowhere, an assassin jumps out, pulls a pistol from under her dress, shouts "It's high noon!" and goes "bang bang bang bang," shooting all the players dead. What on earth was this?
A dimensionality reduction strike?
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Cecilia lowered the gun. She wanted to return it to its holster but hesitated; in the end, she did not have the courage to lift her dress and expose the seductive sight of her suspenders and white stockings in front of everyone.
"By the way, did any of you see where Dragon Abyss's men went?"
After pondering for a moment, Cecilia tried to change the subject.
"Don't you have a tracking map?"
Yuewu asked with a strange expression.
Dawn's Light said nothing either; clearly, everyone had seen through Cecilia's clumsy attempt at changing the topic.
Only Gu Yanxi went along, anxiously pointing in a direction: "There were lots of them, they all ran that way and haven't gone far. Go after them!"
Cecilia shot Gu Yanxi a grateful look, raised her pistol, and was about to take off when she heard Dawn's Light sigh helplessly and say,
"Forget it, I won't ask any more about that whatever-three-zero model gun of yours. I just saw them all running out of the wild area. What happened?"
Cecilia thought for a moment and decided there was no reason to hide anything from them, so she quickly explained,
"This time, Dragon Abyss brought three jerks to deal with me, all around level 14. I took them all out. Now he's probably scared and ordered the others to retreat. I'm hunting them down now, so you don't have to hide anymore—just hurry and catch up."
Having finished, Cecilia decisively turned and left, continuing her pursuit of Dragon Abyss's men.
The other three were left looking at each other in silence.
Because of the delay, Dragon Abyss's men had already run quite far. Over the next few minutes, Cecilia completely dropped her concealment and used her flintlock pistol to continually snipe player after player as they tried to escape.
Today's events had taught her a lesson.
The more she endured, the more Dragon Abyss pressed his luck. If she didn't break him this time, similar things would keep happening in the future.
So in the following minutes, Cecilia became a veritable otherworldly soldier. Every time she spotted a player, she'd calmly raise her hand, aim, and finish them with a headshot.
At last, as they watched their comrades fall one after another, Dragon Abyss's subordinates seemed to realize that they might not make it out of this forest alive.
Over a hundred people being hunted down by a single girl with a pistol—if word of this got out, it would become the laughingstock of the server.
Even a clay figure has a temper, not to mention this group of supposedly "elite" players. Very soon, some of them decided to stay behind, hid behind cover, and began trying to counterattack Cecilia using magic and bows.
However, their arrows and magic were far too slow and weak, and their accuracy was laughable—there was no way they could threaten Cecilia. Instead, they became perfect stationary targets.
Not only did the enemy refuse to surrender, but they even dared fight back?!
Cecilia was becoming furious. Her gun roared again and again, and each blood-infused Silver Bullet howled through the woods, penetrating cover and blowing the players behind into countless sparks of light.
In the blink of an eye, the firepower of dozens was completely suppressed by just one person.
The battle was even simpler than she expected. Cecilia strolled casually, picking off her next target at will, while Dragon Abyss's men cowered behind trees, not daring to show their faces—one false move and a Silver Bullet would home right in.
A female mage player, a little unwilling to give up, hid behind a tree thick enough for two people to encircle, charged her most powerful spell, quickly poked her head out, didn't dare to take careful aim, and just threw the spell toward where Cecilia might appear before trying to shrink back again.
Of course Cecilia wouldn't let her get away with that. In her eyes, all were equal—no distinction of gender—so she raised her hand without hesitation. With a muffled gunshot, the flintlock shuddered, and a silver bullet flew from the muzzle.
[Blood-infused Silver Bullet triggered! Generated—Explosive Shell!]
-1598!
The female mage had no time to react. A hole instantly appeared in her forehead, with virtual red blood spurting out. Her eyes glazed over, and the next second, her body exploded into fragments and she was sent back to the Main City to soak in the hot springs.
"Cecilia! I'll fight you to the end!"
Watching a female teammate die, a male player's face twisted in rage. He screamed and dashed out from behind a tree. But before he managed to get ten meters, a blood flower bloomed on his body and he staggered, falling to his knees as his health emptied.
This was a completely one-sided slaughter. Cecilia, at level 16, already had the power of a level 30 player. As her rhythmic gunshots rang out, the battle lines advanced irresistibly—single-handedly, she turned an ambush into a rout.
Not long before, nearly all of Dragon Abyss's men who stayed behind to resist were killed on the spot. A few tried to hide in the trees, but under Cecilia's keen gaze and the accuracy of her flintlock, not one escaped.
Outside the Mutant Jungle, Dragon Abyss had already retreated to safety. He was massaging his eyes to try and relax his taut nerves when a subordinate reported on the latest situation.
"Captain, we've just heard from one of our guys that only a dozen or so managed to escape. The rest were all surrounded by Cecilia!"
Upon hearing this, Dragon Abyss's face turned red with rage, nearly suffering a stroke on the spot. He cursed,
"Weren't there more than a hundred of you? How did a single person surround all of you? I'm going to explode! What a bunch of useless idiots!"
"They couldn't help it. I heard Cecilia had a gun—one shot per person. Even hiding behind trees was useless," said the subordinate, barely believing the words as he forced them out.
"A gun? Trash is trash! You lost, just admit you lost. Can't even think up a believable excuse—why not say she was piloting a Gundam?"
Dragon Abyss took a deep breath to calm his blood pressure, then bared his teeth in a cold grin. Raising his foot, he delivered a size-44 print to his underling's backside.
Just then, a flock of birds was startled from the distant woods.
Then, like firecrackers bursting, there was a muffled "bang"—a distant gunshot.
Hearing this sound, Dragon Abyss's face instantly changed. As a top-tier second-generation rich kid, he had fired real guns in the real world and could instantly tell where that sound came from.
"Sh*t, it really is a gun! Move! We're getting out of here!"
With that, Dragon Abyss, his face dark, dropped everything—including his secretary—and sprinted away, vanishing in no time.
The remaining few dozens of his men quickly ran as well. In the end, at the cost of nearly a hundred deaths, the ambush Dragon Abyss had meticulously planned concluded in utter anticlimax.
When Gu Yanxi and the others left the Mutant Jungle, Cecilia was already waiting outside. As she checked her backpack and counted her loot, she looked quite pleased.
Besides the rewards from killing two world-class bosses, she had, by herself, killed over ninety of Dragon Abyss's subordinates, looting a total of 14 white common equipments and 6 blue rare equipments. It was definitely a windfall.
Still, those were just average. The biggest prize of this ambush was the purple epic dagger she got from one of the assassin jerks.
