Chapter 52 : Three Jerks
Chapter 52 : Three Jerks
Three JerksA few dozen meters away from those five players, hidden deep within the lush, leafy Mutant Jungle, three figures crouched, silent, their weapons already drawn. It was clear—they were planning to ambush that team as soon as they passed by.
"Cecilia was right after all. The players in this area are really weak. As long as we coordinate well, we should be able to take down this team with ease."
Seeing that the five opponents weren't wearing any remarkable equipment, and then glancing down at his own dark-gold Furious Bear Heavy Armor, Dawn's Light's confidence soared. He turned to the two behind him and murmured quietly.
"Don't forget, they outnumber us, and they've got a Holy Knight. In a moment, I'll crowd control him first, and you go straight for their backline. No problem, right? Don't mess it up when the time comes."
Yuewu surveyed the enemy's lineup, frowning a little as she lowered her voice as well.
Holy Knight wasn't a high-damage class, but its defense and control were top-tier. Just as Yuewu said, they were outnumbered by two. Once Dawn's Light got locked down by the Holy Knight, he'd have a hard time breaking free, and with four enemies in the backline against their two, the outcome could go either way.
"No problem. Wait for my signal."
Dawn's Light nodded, giving an "OK" gesture, thus finishing their tactical exchange with Yuewu.
As for Gu Yanxi, she hadn't uttered a single word this whole time, almost like she was just out for a vacation—utterly unneeded for this kind of fight.
This made sense, since her class was Priest, meant for non-combat support, and the opponents weren't high-level either. Dawn's Light and Yuewu alone should be more than enough.
They waited quietly for several dozen seconds, until the five drew close enough that their complaints and grumbling could be heard. Clearly, they were oblivious to any potential danger nearby—the perfect moment for an ambush.
Right hand slowly tightening around the giant sword already drawn, Dawn's Light held his breath, silently waiting for them to get as close as possible. Meanwhile, his left hand was raised vertically. The instant he swung down, Yuewu would dump all her crowd control skills onto the Holy Knight at the front of the party.
Moments later, the group drew dangerously near. Then, a Sharpshooter in their ranks suddenly turned—locking eyes with Dawn's Light, hidden among the brush.
The unexpected eye contact left both sides a little embarrassed for an instant, but not for long. Dawn's Light was first to react. He slashed his left hand down, snarling in a low voice, "Go!"
With that, he leaped from the brush, brandishing his nearly man-height giant sword, and charged the backline of the enemy squad.
"Lok Tar Ogar!"
The players, deep in conversation, were stunned when an enormous, armored giant sword-wielder popped out from the bushes bellowing Orcish warcries. Not one thought of fleeing. They froze, eyes wide, watching as Dawn's Light charged.
"Run!"
At last, the Mage snapped out of it, face shifting as he shouted to remind the others and took off running.
On the other side, seeing their backline in danger, the Holy Knight quickly hefted his massive tower shield, just about to control Dawn's Light—when a flash of light blue darted at him from the corner of his eye.
"Fire Blast!"
From the trees came a powerful shout in a female voice.
The Holy Knight broke out in a cold sweat at the name "Fire Blast."
In any MMO, that skill represented the Mage's ultimate burst damage—anyone reckless enough to eat that blast head-on was doomed.
He was doubtful—how could someone have already learned "Fire Blast" only days after launch?—but by instinct, he spun around in time to raise his tower shield as Yuewu's Ice Arrow arrived.
Ice Arrow was one of the most basic Mage skills, but it packed decent power and a slowing effect—especially when upgraded to Lv.3 with assignable attribute points, granting a 2-second freeze on hit. Its accuracy was suspect, but against the slow Holy Knight, it was enough.
-59!
With a crisp sound like shattering glass, the thick shield collided with the arrow, bursting into a bright blue blossom of frost. In an instant, the Holy Knight was frozen solid in blue ice from head to toe.
Ice Mage didn't have the Fire Mage's damage, but its top-tier crowd control was unmatched.
Having hit her first spell, Yuewu didn't relax; her staff glimmered again as she prepared another control spell with a freezing effect.
For now, all she needed to do was keep the Holy Knight locked down—as long as possible—so Dawn's Light could slaughter the enemy backline.
......
Meanwhile, over a kilometer away from that battlefield, Cecilia was closing in on her third group of prey.
According to the sonar map returned by the Darkwing Demon Bat, this group, though only three, were higher level than anyone else nearby—each was level 14, no weaker than Dawn's Light or Yuewu.
Could there be three more Level 14+ players on the national server, aside from Gu Yanxi, Dawn's Light, and Yuewu?
This piqued Cecilia's curiosity. Where did Dragon Abyss find these three? Still, expecting to take her on with just three people was laughably arrogant.
Setting aside her curiosity, Cecilia picked up her pace to see what these "fat sheep" were capable of.
The scenery whizzed by. Soon, three figures appeared in a distant woodland clearing.
Sharpshooter, mage, assassin. With a single glance, Cecilia had deduced their classes.
It was an unorthodox lineup—obviously very confident, even arrogant, not needing any front-row protection.
But what caught Cecilia's attention more were their appearances: two tall and thin, one short and fat, faces oddly swollen, eyes squinting, speaking an entirely unintelligible language.
At first, Cecilia thought it some dialect, and listened patiently from a few hundred meters away. It wasn't until she vaguely heard "Shee-ba no-ma!" that a faint note of confusion flickered across her face.
Wasn't the Asia server merger still days away? Wasn't this the national server?
Where did these jerks come from?
A little thought made the answer clear—Dragon Abyss must have brought these guys in to deal with her.
There simply weren't any domestic players who could beat her, so the only option was to invite three jerks from the Han Country server.
Honestly, this was good news—it made Cecilia rather happy.
Whether Dragon Abyss or these jerks, neither were any good. Since the snakes and rats had come together, she wasn't about to go easy on them—a harsh lesson was in order.
Still, some respect for the foreigners was necessary.
Even if they were East Asian, they were proper foreigners, after all.
At this, Cecilia stowed her weapon and tidied herself up a little—not much, just wiping away some blood that had splattered onto her face, and pulling her twin-tails from behind her back to lay in front of her chest.
Supposedly, this made her look cuter and more harmless. Cecilia had never verified it, but Gu Yanxi said so, and that was good enough.
Finishing up, Cecilia fixed a modest smile and dropped her stealth. She started striding directly toward the three jerks.
Sharpshooter and Assassin classes had some of the sharpest senses in the game. Though still at a distance, they quickly spotted the petite figure in the maid outfit.
"Hey, that's our target, right?"
hamed looked up, nasal and exaggerating. He was the tallest of the three, the Sharpshooter, and first to spot Cecilia.
"Didn't Boss show us a picture? That hair, that maid outfit—if that's not Cecilia, who else could it be?"
Silent until now, dim finally spoke his longest sentence. The "Boss" in his mouth was Dragon Abyss. Before this mission, Dragon Abyss had provided a lot of intel on Cecilia. The more Dim read, the more he was awed by Cecilia's reputation.
Whether it was soloing a world-class boss at launch, single-handedly clearing a "monster siege," or crushing elite monsters ten levels above, any one of these deeds was already superhuman.
But the stronger Cecilia was, the more Dim felt his server-hop was worth it. Just as he'd told Dragon Abyss, Cecilia's skills were strong, but there was no way someone like her could defeat a black-belt taekwondo master like himself.
I'll show you—the only people fit to stand at the pinnacle of MMOs are the Han Country players!
"Hehehe, that maid outfit—she's even cuter in person than in her photos or videos. If I get the chance, I'll have to ask her for a drink."
conjurer, the shortest and fattest of the three, grinned. In-game, his pimples had been smoothed away, but his greasy slicked-back hair and smile remained.
In his mind, as a fellow "anime otaku," and seeing Cecilia dressed in a maid outfit with twin-tails, she must be anime-obsessed too.
Since they were the same kind of people, surely she'd laugh and accept his invitation. After all, inviting someone to drink was nothing—she'd never say no.
