Chapter 71 : Breeding District
Chapter 71 : Breeding District
Breeding District============================
"Why do you want to go there?!"
Lyle looked at Jiang Cheng in shock as he spoke.
"What? Can't I?"
Jiang Cheng said with a smiling squint, "Of the three areas in the Flower Capital, only the Breeding District has the cheapest housing prices."
"?"
Lyle was a bit speechless, and said, "You don't look like someone who would care about something like housing prices."
"Oh, so that's the image I have in the great hero's heart, huh~"
Jiang Cheng replied with her eyes narrowing into a smile.
"Uh..."
Lyle didn't dare continue this conversation. Although he could be a bit blunt, he wasn't foolish enough to answer Jiang Cheng directly that this *was* indeed his impression.
"Mhm~, why aren't you talking now?"
Jiang Cheng teased lightly with a smile, "Anyway, just think of it as me trying to save money. After all, it's not cheap to find a place to stay in every city."
"As for the real reason~ you'll know tonight."
Jiang Cheng said with a laugh.
"All right."
Nodding, Lyle didn't say any more and simply agreed to Jiang Cheng.
Thus, the two walked hand in hand toward their destination.
Since both of them knew the way, they didn't need to stop and ask anyone, so they walked along unhurriedly.
Jiang Cheng glanced at the falling flower petals filling the sky and opened a pink parasol.
Not only did it stop petals from brushing her face, it also made the whole scene even lovelier.
A silver-grey-haired girl strolling through a rain of pink-and-white flower petals under a pink parasol—such a striking sight that Lyle couldn't help but stare blankly for a moment.
"What are you looking at?"
Jiang Cheng glanced at Lyle with her golden eyes, her voice light and cold. "Let's go."
"Okay."
Nodding, Lyle came back to his senses and caught up to Jiang Cheng.
The road gradually became less even, and besides the floral aroma, there was suddenly a faint, strange smell in the wind.
Jiang Cheng frowned a little; as she thought, she still hadn't quite gotten used to the smell here.
Going forward again, they came to a tall fence that seemed to separate the area ahead from the outside world completely.
"Are we just going to register normally to go in or...?"
Lyle glanced at the guards at the gate, then turned to look at Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng said nothing, but in the next second, her figure standing in place shattered.
In Lyle's senses, Jiang Cheng's aura had already appeared in a concealed spot inside the fence.
"Haaa."
With a sigh, Lyle understood Jiang Cheng's attitude.
The problem was, he himself didn't have any teleportation abilities.
Frowning, he drew on the blessing within his body. In the next instant, his figure turned into a flash of golden light and appeared in front of Jiang Cheng.
It was the full divine blessing from the God of Adventurers, Ferran: "Master of All Arts."
With this blessing, Lyle could use weakened forms of all the world's magic and martial skills.
For instance, although he still couldn't actually cast any fire spells, he could still conjure a small flame to light something on fire—just not to the extent of casting fireballs or summoning fire dragons.
What he'd just used was the weakened version of spatial magic: a very short-range teleportation, which brought him inside the wall.
This blessing also represented Ferran's elevated understanding of adventure.
The ability to solve any sudden trouble encountered during an adventure was what made someone a true adventurer.
Perhaps, even after becoming a god, he still kept, in his heart, that age of all-powerful adventurers described by Teacher.
Jiang Cheng glanced at the slightly disheveled Lyle, who had just landed, and gave a soft laugh.
Meanwhile, the wounds on her body caused by the divine art were continuously healing as Jiang Cheng said with a smile:
"This ability is really wasted on you, so clumsy just to teleport."
"I really don't know anything about magic. It's my first time experiencing this, so... isn't it normal?"
Lyle replied awkwardly, trying to explain.
"Is that so?"
Jiang Cheng tilted her head with a smile. "Well, with a Teacher who's a demigod Great Mage and one of the best in magic across the continent..."
"All right, all right,"
Lyle sounded a bit down, "Who told me, the hero, to completely lack talent for magic?"
Jiang Cheng was speechless—this guy got so depressed at just a little teasing, were her alternate identities really that savage?
"So, you're just waiting for your junior sister, the caster, to inherit Teacher's mantle, huh?"
"Get lost."
Jiang Cheng was exasperated.
"Okay then,"
Lyle agreed instantly, dropping the subject and following Jiang Cheng deeper inside.
Inside the fence, the Breeding District had none of the even roads from outside, or rather, there was no real road at all.
There were only uneven patches of trampled mud—it was even questionable whether it could be called "mud."
After all, the stench in the air, which even the thick flower fragrance couldn't mask, made one wonder just how much of the earth was mixed with excrement.
Fortunately, both Jiang Cheng and Lyle, including their shoes, were protected by magic, so none of it would stick to them.
But besides that, there were plenty of other concerning odors in the air.
Scents of various bodily fluids lingering, and an overwhelming smell of blood.
The blood scent was so strong it overpowered the stench, filling the area with the pungency of rust, as if they had arrived at a metal scrapyard.
As they walked, Jiang Cheng smelled the air carefully, trying to distinguish the odors.
She only stopped when she had finally picked out another peculiar, alluring floral scent woven into the air.
"We'll stay here,"
Jiang Cheng said, pushing open the door to a slightly cleaner-looking small house and addressing the skinny bare-chested man inside.
The man glanced indifferently at the gold coin flicked from Lyle's fingertip.
"Fool,"
Jiang Cheng said with a glance at Lyle, "What good are those to him? He can't use them."
As she spoke, Jiang Cheng waved her hand and took a box of bread and five large barrels of water from her portable space, saying,
"Clean the house, then leave, and all this is yours."
At last, there was a spark in the man's eyes, and he quickly cleaned the room.
However, he didn't look at the food on the floor at all; instead, he grabbed a knife and dashed outside.
A few minutes later, a scream came from the next house. The thin man returned, blood on his body, grabbed the bread in excitement, and ran off dragging the water.
"See?"
Jiang Cheng said to the slightly stunned Lyle with a smile.
"So easy, and we got a place to stay. Looks like you've forgotten the rules around here after all this time away."
"No,"
Lyle shook his head, "I just feel like it shouldn't be this way. After all, they're not bad people."
"Sure, sure~"
Jiang Cheng exaggerated the sound, "But so what? If you care too much about that, no one else will care about you. Let's settle in first—only when you have what you want in hand does it count."
Lyle fell silent and simply nodded.
"All right, all right. It's just a temporary place, no need to fuss."
Thinking aloud, Jiang Cheng said, "Let's not bother with furniture, just leave it as is."
"Jiang Cheng, what exactly are you planning?"
Lyle asked in confusion.
"Shhh~"
Jiang Cheng put her index finger to Lyle's lips with a smile.
"If you say your wish out loud, it won't come true~"
"Anyway, let's sleep first. We still have work to do tonight."
