Chapter 67 : A New God

Chapter 67 : A New God

A New God==============================

"Pfft," the hilt of the blade was suddenly thrust into the false god's decayed body.

In the next moment, Ferran's consciousness sank into silence, not knowing where he was falling.

"Will he die?"

Lyle turned his head, seriously gazing at Jiang Cheng as he asked.

"What's wrong?"

Tilting her head, Jiang Cheng smiled, "Are you worried?"

"A little,"

Lyle nodded, "The false god kept saying he was going to die. As my comrade, I really don't want anything to happen to him."

"Don't worry,"

Jiang Cheng nodded, "He'll be fine. I've already done everything I can. However..."

Jiang Cheng didn't finish her sentence; the standard for being 'fine' for the two of them might not be quite the same.

Ferran's consciousness floated in silence, countless scenes flashing before his eyes.

There were images from childhood in the slums, when he couldn't get enough to eat and couldn't survive, the scene of his sister's disappearance, the Teacher rescuing and instructing him, and him stealing all over town to support the Teacher.

Finally, the many images shattered, fixing on two moments: when he gunned down the association's parasites, and when he stabbed the false god's body with his blade.

In the depths of oblivion, an insignia identical to the adventurer's mark on his left hand suddenly lit up in his consciousness. It was the divine emblem of the previous God of Adventure.

"What is this? No, no! How can you possibly still be alive? Impossible!"

The false god suddenly sensed something, and roared angrily.

"I already devoured you! Completely digested! You're not allowed to come back out again!"

However, these words obviously had no effect whatsoever.

In the next instant, from that large, decayed mass of its body, weird "pong-pong" sounds echoed.

Next, countless faces floated to the surface of its body, and at the very top was a face full of divine might, expressionless and noble.

If Ferran were there, he'd probably recognize it at a glance.

That foremost face looked exactly like the statue of the previous God of Adventure often depicted in the church pamphlets Teacher used to read.

However, his consciousness was still entangled in a struggle with the false god—he obviously didn't notice this detail.

Indeed, a struggle. Just before this moment in his mind, a sudden, powerful psychic shock had slammed into him.

That vast, oceanic spirit was as distant and unreachable to him as a god itself—no, it *was* a god.

But just as his consciousness was about to be wiped out by that overwhelming spirit, clusters of other consciousnesses appeared at his side.

"What are those things?"

Outside, Lyle stared at the faces emerging from the false god's body, asking in confusion.

"First off, what we should know is this,"

Jiang Cheng replied with a cheerful smile.

"The way corrupted monsters devour others isn't just about getting memories–at its core, it's a kind of soul fusion. The monsters probably don't even realize that themselves."

Jiang Cheng burst out laughing, "Ha! And that thing, it devoured a god? It even dreamed that it could completely kill off the god's consciousness? What a joke!"

"So, the previous God of Adventure is still here?"

Lyle asked with a frown.

"Unfortunately, no—it's just some lingering shards of consciousness,"

Jiang Cheng shrugged.

"Originally, that consciousness should have long since faded with the years. But, as luck would have it, something unexpected happened."

As Jiang Cheng spoke, she snapped her fingers: "I know you're the sort who would never bother reading the pamphlets, so I'll just tell you directly."

"If you'd read the old Adventurers' Association tracts, you'd know the myth: every true adventurer's soul returns to the God of Adventure after death to continue his grand quest."

"So, you're the souls of those who returned to the god?"

In the false god's mental realm, Ferran looked at the other consciousnesses and asked.

"Yes. That false god tried to erase the mind of our main host, but didn't expect that we'd keep coming in for so long, taking the brunt of most of the assault."

"However, everything changed after you entered," a resounding voice declared—it was the lingering consciousness of the God of Adventure.

"With the power of your artifact, you can truly seize its body. So..." the God of Adventure's lingering will continued.

"In that case, let us become your blades and kill it!"

"My lord..."

Ferran began, but was cut off.

"This is my final grand adventure; do not stand in my way."

As the voice faded, the brightest consciousness charged straight toward the false god's powerful mind.

"We shall also follow our main host!" the other consciousnesses laughed heartily, "Adventure is eternal!"

As their voices fell, those consciousnesses turned into motes of light and, together with the God of Adventure's lingering will, charged at the false god.

"Teacher...?"

Watching the last mote of light, Ferran called out softly.

"Haha!"

Lu An's voice sounded, "Not calling me 'old man' anymore? You did well, kid—I thought you'd only ever steal things. Never expected you'd make a fine adventurer too."

"After all these years of you supporting me, it's high time I do something for you."

As his voice ended, lu An's consciousness also lunged toward the false god.

"Teacher!"

Ferran cried aloud. Outside, a single tear slid down the side of his body's face.

"This is impossible!"

The false god shrieked as its consciousness was relentlessly bombarded by the lingering will of the God of Adventure.

Like countless blades piercing its spirit, finally—when Lu An's consciousness rammed through with one last cry—the false god's mind dissipated.

In a daze, Ferran's consciousness seized possession of the new body.

"Will they succeed?"

In the distance, as he watched the faces on the body collapse one after another, Lyle asked with clear worry.

"Don't fret,"

Jiang Cheng nodded, "That false god wasn't that strong to begin with—even tougher demigods couldn't lose to such trash."

"I'm done,"

Ferran awkwardly manipulated the disgusting new body, making it squirm a little.

The voice sounded sticky and gross—enough to make Ferran, who now had no eyebrows, instinctively try to frown.

"Congratulations,"

Jiang Cheng walked up, smiling and bowing slightly.

"Ferran—oh, I should say, most honorable God of Adventure—congratulations on achieving your revenge."

"Is that so...? Compared to controlling this disgusting body, I'd almost have rather died along with Teacher's consciousness."

Ferran made a revolting noise, "You really kept a lot from me, didn't you?"

"Of course,"

Jiang Cheng replied calmly, opening her arms, "So? Do you plan to take revenge on me?"

"Forget it,"

Ferran waved his so-called 'head'. "You helped me, after all."

"Very good—so your morals remain intact. I believe you'll make an excellent god,"

Jiang Cheng smiled warmly.

"Anyway, Renata will be watching you. How you act is your affair."

Ferran paused. "Her... Fine. Let her be the new church's priestess, then, to communicate with the god—that is, with me."

"That's up to you,"

Jiang Cheng shrugged, "Do as you please, I just want..."

As she spoke, Jiang Cheng narrowed her golden eyes, "Give Lyle a blessing. A full blessing, not a single function missing."

"All right."

As Ferran agreed, a dazzling golden light burst forth, merging into Lyle's chest before his very eyes.

The Sword in the Stone in Lyle's hand also shone with a new pattern.
