Chapter 64 : The Descent of the False God
Chapter 64 : The Descent of the False God
The Descent of the False God==============================
"Divine Kingdom?"
Lyle frowned and looked at the massive floating nation.
"That's right,"
Jiang Cheng nodded and said, "this is the God of Adventurers' Divine Kingdom, which has been transformed into the false god's own Divine Kingdom."
"Then what is it trying to do?"
Ferran, who had walked back, asked doubtfully. "Is it going to fly over and crush us to death?"
"Of course not,"
Jiang Cheng snorted. "If it were really that simple, that'd actually make things easier."
"How could that be?"
Lyle looked over in confusion as well.
"Because that would simply mean it's using physical attacks. As long as our defenses are strong enough, we'd be fine."
Jiang Cheng shrugged. "Unfortunately, it isn't. So we can only rely on you and Ferran—that's our only chance."
"I see..."
Lyle nodded. "I'll protect him. He'll definitely make it to the false god."
"Good",
Jiang Cheng nodded and turned to Ferran, handing him something. "Take this. It's important, but you don't need to do anything extra," she said with a smile. "I've already inscribed a magic circuit onto it. Once you get close to it, it'll automatically begin locking onto its soul. It'll just take a bit of time—you don't need to worry about anything else."
"Alright,"
Ferran nodded. "I can handle that sort of thing."
"Then let's just wait and see,"
Jiang Cheng said with a soft chuckle.
"This magic circuit..."
Lyle examined its surface in awe, "such a delicate, elegant magic circuit, so graceful in its lines—just like Teacher's work."
Hearing Lyle say this, Jiang Cheng couldn't help but feel a pang of anxiety, even though she had already explained it long ago. She wondered if he would pick up on any suspicious details.
Lyle turned to Jiang Cheng. "Junior sister, you really are a genius. You learned so well—even your penmanship is almost exactly the same as Teacher's."
Oh, fine. She really shouldn't have worried—this blockhead's mind would never suspect a thing.
"I told you, I'm not your junior sister, you idiot!"
Embarrassed by her own needless anxiety, Jiang Cheng muttered a quick retort.
"Okay, junior sister. My bad,"
Lyle insisted stubbornly on the issue.
"Fine, fine!"
Jiang Cheng shrugged helplessly. "Do as you like. I don't have time to mess around with you."
"So why did it steer the Divine Kingdom over here?"
Ferran asked, still confused.
Steer over... Hearing Ferran use that verb, the corner of Jiang Cheng's mouth twitched.
The king of corrupted monsters rammed people with its giant maw, and now the false god was going to ram people with its Divine Kingdom?
So in their minds, are corrupted monsters just evolved transport beasts?
That image was a bit too vivid for her to entertain. Shrugging, Jiang Cheng gave a serious explanation.
"Basically, when the Divine Kingdom gets close enough, the false god will enact Divine Kingdom Descent."
"At that moment, the Divine Kingdom and this part of the Spirit Realm will overlap, manifesting the characteristics and objects of both at the same time."
"In simple terms~ you cancel collision volume and stack them together? Forget it, you idiots wouldn't understand anyway. That's all you need to know."
Jiang Cheng shrugged.
"I think I get it,"
Lyle mumbled tentatively.
"What? How did you understand?"
Jiang Cheng was baffled—even she barely understood what she'd just said. How could Lyle, this big goof, get it?
"Because... just look up."
Lyle answered awkwardly.
Jiang Cheng raised her head and finally realized what was happening—it had already begun.
In the surrounding void, gigantic mechanical apparitions appeared, and the air began to distort.
"Hurry up and get ready. The instant the Divine Kingdom descends, run straight towards the center!"
Jiang Cheng quickly turned to the other two. "The center is my room, and I'll be nearby using divine art to assist you and distract the false god."
Her pale lips moved swiftly as she spoke.
"And remember—don't destroy the sacred artifact until you're right in front of it!"
Jiang Cheng shouted. In the next moment, the Divine Kingdom suddenly descended.
The air twisted, and the whole world looked like an overexposed photograph, suffused with a blurry, unreal radiance.
All around, countless enormous machines stood tall, gears turning, chains rattling with a constant creak.
Each of these machines oozed pitch-black sludge—identical to what was found on corrupted monsters—proving the false god's connection to them.
At the very center, where Jiang Cheng's house had been, now stood a towering cathedral cobbled together from countless machines, with streams of solidified black mire flowing across it.
The cathedral was both magnificent and eerie—hard to imagine such contrasting qualities could coexist, and yet they fit perfectly together.
At the center of the cathedral, through the wide-open main doors, everyone could see a massive, twisted lump of black mire.
The mire barely maintained a human form, its exterior covered with exoskeleton armor, hiding its features.
Yet, the face left exposed to the air let everyone recognize its true form: black mire.
That face had no distinct features, only black mire encrusted with various machine parts.
"Run!"
Jiang Cheng shouted, her body rising and hovering in midair.
In the next instant, Jiang Cheng's body seemed to burst apart, skin splitting open as blood, flesh, sinew, and bone floated up from her.
Seeing such a bizarre sight, Lyle simply gritted his teeth, grabbed Ferran, and broke into a run toward the false god.
"This is transcendent level divine art. Every second she suffers the searing agony of flesh splitting from bone—finish this quickly! Don't make her wait too long."
Bang, Bang—the next second, countless mechanical arms shot out from the Divine Kingdom, aiming for Lyle and Ferran.
"Bang!"
But the blood and shattered bone swirling around Jiang Cheng catapulted outward, instantly piercing through those mechanical arms.
In the next moment, the pierced arms seemed infected, sprouting new blood and flesh and turning on the other mechanical arms.
Lyle dashed forward, dodging wave after wave of sudden attacks—including a hail of bullets.
The blood and skeleton circling Jiang Cheng steadily diminished, wasted fending off relentless machine arms, yet she kept watch over Lyle and Ferran from afar.
Suddenly, accompanied by a thunderous rumble, the massive machine moved.
The enormous, black-mire-coated machine shifted, gears turning as it morphed into a giant hand, reaching for Lyle.
"Why is it always hands? Is this false god obsessed with hands or what?"
Jiang Cheng quipped effortlessly, and in the next instant, the blood vessels at her side shot out like spears, piercing into the machine hand.
Lasers, bullets, all kinds of high-tech weaponry fired relentlessly at Lyle and Ferran.
Lyle held Ferran close, rolling and dodging frantically to avoid the storm of bullets.
On the periphery, some machines began to spawn corrupted monsters, but Jiang Cheng's blood vessels impaled them before they got close.
Finally, the pair made it to the false god!
