Chapter 301: There’s News on the Matter You Asked Me to Investigate
The two didn’t head straight to the restaurant but visited the aquarium, as night descended, the snack street became the most bustling.
It was Maya’s first time at Kyston’s snack street, packed with people, illuminated brilliantly, big red lanterns hung high, adding a festive atmosphere.
The crowd was crowded, Maya had to clasp Ian’s hand tightly, it would be troublesome to lose each other since Maya didn’t know her way around.
Feeling the warmth from his palm, Ian’s annoyance slightly dissipated, the originally detested noisy environment seemed not so unbearable.
He unconsciously tightened his grip on her hand, looking at Maya sticking closely, Ian felt more that he had come to the right place.
Maya kept looking around: "It’s so lively here, have you been here before?"
The surrounding noise was too much, Ian slightly bent down towards her: "What?"
The deep voice seemed to sound right by her ear, Maya instinctively shrank her neck: "I mean, I don’t have anything important..."
Ian didn’t delve into it, he pulled Maya’s hand forward: "This place is quite famous, see if there’s something you like to eat?"
Maya nodded obediently, looking very well-behaved.
In fact, she was unable to move past the first stall: "I want to eat grilled duck intestine."
Ian glanced at the oily grilled barbecue, later sprinkled with various seasoning powders by the owner.
"Too greasy."
Maya waved his hand: "How could you not eat greasy food at a snack street?"
In the end, Ian neatly paid for her and carried it for her.
Maya was no longer awkwardly rejecting Ian’s presence, but holding a skewer of duck intestine, neither eating nor not eating.
Maya slightly pulled down her mask, then pulled it back up again.
Her voice carried some annoyance: "Only able to look but not eat, being a star is not easy at all."
If she took off the mask, likely she’d be surrounded by people the next second.
Ian chuckled lightly, recalling her former troublesome male co-stars: "Indeed."
Ian then put the duck intestine skewer back in the bag: "Take a stroll, buy some food, then eat in the car later."
Maya nodded.
Arriving at another shop, Maya was attracted and stepped up the steps: "I want a portion of steamed rice cake."
The shopkeeper looked up in surprise: "Your voice... hey girl, you look like a big celebrity, what’s their name..."
Maya had already dashed away with Ian.
All the subsequent food purchases were made by Ian for her.
"Hello, one serving of grilled large intestine."
A slightly low voice sounded.
"Alright..." The shopkeeper looked up, seeing the man in front dressed impeccably, carrying a natural elegance, stunned for a moment to see such a dignified person actually enjoying pig intestines.
Yet, the shopkeeper had been in business for over a decade and responded quickly: "Hold on, it’ll be ready soon."
After a while, Maya took the fragrant grilled large intestine.
Ian still showed slight disapproval on his face: "Don’t eat too much of these, too greasy."
"I only eat occasionally, we’re already here, honey let’s not be too uptight about these!"
After visiting several shops, Ian’s hands were already full of stuff.
Many eyes around them focused on them, perhaps their couple was too eye-catching.
"Why did you pack so much food, are you going back to have a midnight snack?"
"Look at their aura, could pass as models on a red carpet!"
"Look at her boyfriend, not only handsome but also considerate, whereas you!"
...
Having made a round, Ian’s hands carried even more things.
Maya felt it was heavy just looking, and suggested to take it herself, but Ian declined.
The snacks bought were many, probably enough to eat, and keeping them till tomorrow would not be fresh, which would be wasteful again.
Seeing Ian’s hands filled with bags, Maya’s rare guilt surfaced: "We’ve almost been around, honey let’s go back."
"Not continuing to stroll?"
"I’m a bit sleepy."
Ian nodded: "You walk ahead of me."
Maya looked at him with puzzled eyes.
"Isn’t it to avoid getting separated? Walking behind you will prevent that."
Maya moved to the front, walked a distance, and suddenly turned back to look.
She saw Ian closely following behind, holding the snacks she bought.
The soft warm light illuminated his side profile, softening his angular features considerably.
"Why did you stop?"
Maya suddenly felt a complex emotion, somewhat sour and nostalgic. It was too hard to describe, that her senses hadn’t fully captured it, just felt her heartbeat quicken.
Maya ran back to his side, stammering awkwardly: "Walking alone was too lonely, let’s walk together."
His eyes moved slightly, finally just said a word: "...Alright."
Back in the car, Maya lost her appetite for those delicacies, feeling her mood was chaotic and frightening.
The car window was slightly open, bringing in strands of cool breeze, but it wasn’t enough to offset the inner restlessness and irritation.
Having bought too many snacks, upon arriving at the villa Maya invited Aunt Wang and others to eat together.
Ian certainly didn’t want to eat, but under Maya’s insistence, he had a few pieces.
Maya felt a lack of appetite, ate little and returned to her room, just as she buried her head under the blanket, feeling the bed side sink slightly, followed by Ian’s voice.
"Why did you eat so little? Not feeling well?"
Maya choked slightly, this was the consequence of being a foodie?
She peeked a head out from under the blanket, her cheeks blooming pink: "I’m fine, just feeling a bit sleepy, a nap will cure it..."
Without waiting for his reply, Maya turned over, with her back facing Ian.
Next, Maya didn’t hear Ian’s voice, but could feel the unavoidable gaze. Maya suppressed the strange feeling, wiggled her body and closed her eyes again.
But this night was destined to be sleepless.
*
The weather was sweltering, scorching people like a furnace, Maya gave up looking at the scenery outside, diving back into the RV.
Inside the RV, the air conditioner was on, finally feeling some pleasant coolness.
A familiar ringtone sounded.
"Maya, your phone is ringing."
Maya fetched out her phone to answer: "Hello, Ryan."
Ryan Spencer’s voice revealed some urgency: "Maya, do you remember the matter you asked me to investigate before?"
Maya squinted her eyes: "Was there a result on Kiki’s matter?"
"It wasn’t easy to investigate this matter, took a lot of effort to find clues, but the result is more or less certain."
"Who is it?"
The other party slowly said: "Tristan."
