Chapter 176: The calamity End
Chapter 176: The calamity End
***Damon’s POV***
A new dawn arrived as the sun rose over the horizon. Beneath the rays of the newly risen sun floated a multitude of rocks, slowly moving mid air as if in suspended animation.
These rocks were none other than the remnants of the Agin flying island where the Ivos Gala was held. The only thing holding the remnants from plunging
down to the ground was the sorcery initially keeping the island afloat.
One of the only things that would lead one to even guess it was the same dazzling island from before, was the Majestic Castle still standing on one of the major rocks.
Another inkling was the stench of blood and death. The dismembered floating island reeked of blood and death so much so that it was stifling.
Though, humans weren’t the only ones who bore severe casualties, the heretics also did, infact the casualties within their ranks were several times that of the humans.
The attack yesterday didn’t just end after our successful elimination of the heretic with the metal manipulation who for some reason was asked to target me specifically. And not did it end with Alistair and the rest successfully killing the heretic with the mind hex.
Now that I think about it, Alistair and the rest held their own far better than they did in the novel. In the novel, they were one good hit away from death, and came out of the fight pretty wrecked up. Guess it had to do with my intervention.
Anyway, we had to continue fighting the disciples for dear life. Lickiky, none of the Sinners targeted us anymore, or rather were too occupied to come after us.
That wasn’t to say we had it easy though. Most disciples flocked to us; Alistair, Anastasia and I, specifically, like moths drawn to a flame.
We killed as many as we could, untill our limbs protested, and till our aether ran out, threating to push us into aether exhaustion.
"When will he arrive?" I had muttered as chopped off another heretic’s head. The man I was referring to was of course Sevas Necron. In the novel, it wasn’t mentioned how he did it, but he was the first among the alpha rankers who managed to quickly deal with the ancient horror that had awoken back in the Remea continent, and rushed back to Agin island.
"We’re going to die at this rate." Rose had said spitting out a mouthful of blood as we stood back to back, facing the encirclement of disciples.
"Hehehe." I had chuckled, heaving for breath.
"What’s so funny?" Rose frowned, tilting her head.
I smiled, despite the agony being inflicted on me by my mangled arm.
"We are not going to die at this rate." I shook my head. "You are the ones who are going to die at this rate. I can always get away, remember?"
Rose looked out of it for a bit before scoffing.
"Utterly ridiculous."
In truth, I had no more reflections in the Majestic Castle, only my main body was left, and I was pretty much on my last legs just like everyone else. But if I was dumb enough to come to the gala fully knowing what was going to happen, I’d be beyond stupid to not keep a reflection on standby.
At this moment, I could be in the safety of my room back in the Darkfell garden. Still, I wouldn’t do that unless it was absolutely needed. And unfortunately, judging by the current situation, it wasn’t far off, unless of course Sevas makes it in time.
Just as I thought that, the heretics encircling us, jumped at us. At this moment, we couldn’t use our techniques or even our abilities. All we had was our exhausted bodies and our fighting skills.
I ducked under the first heretic whose nails had extended into bladed weapons and were sweeping towards my head.
The bladed nails cut a few strand of my perfect but disheveled hair. I swept the heretic’s feet bringing him to the floor, before bringing my sword to guard against the spiky fist heading for my head.
Clang!
I tried to counter attack, only for a foot to hit my face. I flew suspended in the air for quite a long time- at least to me, before I landed.
"Shit!" I cursed as a hot stream of blood gushed down my nose. However, I soon twisted myself off the floor as a blue energy blasted the place I had been before.
"Fuck it, these bastards won’t let me rest would they?" It looked like I would have to leave now.
I took a glance at Rose as she got punched to the ground and narrowly avoided being skewered with earth spikes.
’Meh, she’ll be fine.’ I shrugged and prepared to swap away. However, just a moment before I did,
"You vile creatures." A borderline overbearing red aura washed over the entire Agin island.
Everyone instantly froze, be it the humans or the heretics, be it the mundane children being guarded on the second floor, or the Beta ranked beings fighting outside the Majestic Castle, every single being froze under that overbearing aura.
It wasn’t out of fear or instinct- not that it wasn’t part- but mainly because we couldn’t move even if they tried. That was just how above us an Alpha ranked being was.
After everyone was frozen for what felt like two seconds, the overbearing red aura suddenly spiked, and before our very eyes, every single heretic on the first floor, be it the weakest common disciple, or the strongest sinner, all exploded into blood mist before our very eyes.
I watched as I was splattered by gore. In the novel, when I had read about this scene, it seemed pretty badass, but now that I was witnessing it myself, this... this was crazy scary.
Dying without being able to offer the slightest bit of resistance freaked me to no end. They were alive one moment, and blood mist the next.
Without willing to, I subconsciously gritted my teeth. I really needed to grow stronger didn’t I?
Anyway, that was pretty much it. Just like in the novel, Amon arrived a moment. Meanwhile, Sevas could simultaneously eliminate all disciples, Sinners, and Apostles, eliminating Dark lords in the same way wasn’t entirely feasible.
Which was why Sevas eliminated the rest first, then focused on the dark lords, who were still frozen. With Amon’s arrival, not a single Dark lord escaped.
Everything was over in less than ten seconds. The attack had began at midnight, and lasted for several hours, before ultimately ending close to dawn. Which was why the island had a heavy stench of blood and death.
-------------
Above the now destroyed island, three figures floated mid air. They were Amon, Lucas, and Sevas. Lucas had also finished dealing with the ancient horror underneath the Astral Mystic island, and arrived a few moments ago.
"The dark cult has gotten pretty bold these days eh?" Sevas scoffed.
"Much as I hate to admit it, it has to do with our negligence. Had we been more guarded or active against them this wouldn’t have happened." Lucas stated in a matter of fact tone.
"What matters at the moment is how we deal with the aftermath." Amon said. "This is a stain on the human race. We’ve lost all face with the four races, and some willy ones would think we’re now pushovers."
"Sigh!" Lucas let out an audible sigh. "I’ll call a meeting to the Grand Templar. This needs to be discussed in detail with the other seat holders. What do you both think?"
Sevas grinned, the type that sent chills down a person spine, but both were unfazed of anything.
"All I can think of is returning to my empire and declaring an all out campaign against the dark cult. There will be a bloodshed." While he was smiling, he felt nothing but sheer rage at the sheer audacity of those heretics. Currently, he was barely holding himself back from searching for himself wherever their base was.
"I should have known." Lucas shook his head with a wry smile. This was Sevas’s personality, ever since the time when he was admitted in the Astral Mystic Institute as a first year student.
"What about you?" He turned to Amon.
Amon didn’t smile, but the glint in his eyes said all that there was to be said.
"Do you need ask?" Said Amon. "I’ll be heading back to my empire. As for the rest of my family, they can come by themselves." Amon turned away.
"And also...." He said with his back turned to the two. "Tell your daughter to stay away from my son, Sevas."
Sevas’s eyes radiated a piercing red hue. "Should I take that as a threat, Amon?"
"Not a threat, but a warning per say." Amon replied, his eyes also radiating a dark purple hue. "My son needs no distractions."
