Chapter 72 Divergence
Chapter 72 Divergence
Three days after Zhao Chen survived his tribulation, Kieran came to visit.
That day, Zhao Chen was sitting cross-legged on the high platform of the palace, circulating his magical power within his body to consolidate his early stage of the Void Refinement realm. Suddenly, he heard footsteps approaching from afar, neither hurried nor slow.
Zhao Chen scanned the area with his divine sense. He saw the newcomer, a man in a long robe that trailed on the ground, walking down the steps. It was Kilan.
Kieran stopped about three steps away from him, his white hair and beard fluttering slightly in the morning breeze. His gaze calmly fell on Zhao Chen without him speaking. The two of them remained silent, one sitting, the other standing.
Zhao Chen didn't have time to waste with him and spoke first. "Principal Kiran, what brings you here?"
"I think you've already guessed why I'm here today."
"You're not here to ask about my system for getting stronger, are you?" Zhao Chen asked calmly.
"Of course, it's not for any other reason. Is it convenient for us to chat? Just consider it as satisfying an old man's thirst for knowledge."
Zhao Chen opened his eyes and stared silently at Kieran with his golden pupils. "No comment."
Kieran nodded, as if he had expected this. He turned and started to walk down the steps, but stopped after only a few steps. "If one day you suddenly want to tell me, I'm always available to listen to your story."
Zhao Chen did not respond.
Less than half an hour after Kieran left, a second guest arrived.
The newcomer was none other than Karl. He wore a dark blue robe, had a handsome face, and a gentle smile played on his lips. What impressed Zhao Chen most was that he walked even slower than the old man Kieran; every step seemed calculated.
"Congratulations on your breakthrough, Lord Zhao Chen." Karl stopped in front of Zhao Chen, bowed slightly, and behaved with the humility of a student.
Zhao Chen looked at him. "Get to the point."
Karl smiled nonchalantly. "I understand that you don't want to tell others about this power."
But I've come here simply to ask you if you could share some basic knowledge? You know, the Super God Academy has been studying the nature of the universe for so many years, and we've never seen such a power system before.
Even a basic theoretical concept could potentially propel civilization forward by leaps and bounds.
Zhao Chen leaned lazily against a nearby stone pillar, giving him a once-over. "Finished?"
Karl's smile remained unchanged throughout. "I know this request may be presumptuous. But the essence of knowledge lies in sharing and research. The reason the Shenhe civilization has developed to its current state is precisely because of openness and—"
"That's enough. I don't have time to listen to your lectures. If you want to share, go share with someone else."
Karl's smile froze for a moment, then quickly returned to normal. "I understand. Sorry to have disturbed you, Lord Zhao Chen."
He then gave a slight bow and turned to leave, his steps still unhurried. Zhao Chen watched his departing figure, and his divine sense suddenly caught the faint smile on his lips slowly fading as he descended the steps.
Three days later, Kieran suddenly demanded to see Keisha.
In the main hall of the Heavenly Court of Merlo, Keisha sat regally on her throne, her silver wings folded behind her. He Xi stood to the left of the throne, while Liang Bing stood to the right. Zhao Chen was seated on a stone chair on the right side of the palace; he hadn't wanted to come, but Keisha insisted that he listen in.
Kieran was standing in the center of the palace, with Karl following behind him.
"Queen Keisha, we cannot rest now; the war of the forms is not over yet." Kieran's voice was not loud, but his words were clear. "Although the beast forms and the triangular forms have been banished to the edge of the universe, they still exist. As long as they recover, they could return at any time."
Therefore, on behalf of the Super God Academy, I suggest launching a final battle to completely eradicate the Beast and Triangular Bodies.
Keisha was silent for a moment, then turned to look at He Xi and Liang Bing. "What do you think?"
Triangular shapes are not to be underestimated. He Xi spoke, her tone full of seriousness.
"Then let's fight again! I haven't had my fill of killing yet!" Liang Bing said excitedly.
What do you think? Keisha looked at Zhao Chen.
Zhao Chen leaned back in his seat, his fingers tapping lightly on the armrest.
"I object."
Instantly, everyone in the hall turned to look at Zhao Chen. Kieran stared at him calmly, waiting for Zhao Chen's next words. Karl stood quietly behind Kieran, his lips twitching almost imperceptibly. He Xi and Liang Bing also watched him.
Zhao Chen stood up and walked to the center of the main hall.
"What is your reason for attacking? Is it because they are not divine beings? Is it because you fear they will threaten your rule in the future?"
Zhao Chen turned to look at Kieran. "The strong replacing the weak is only natural. What will you do if new forces and new races rise up after you destroy this one today?"
Can you possibly wipe them all out? Don't try to portray yourself as so noble. So-called physical warfare is essentially a struggle between different civilizations over the definition of 'justice'.
Keisha frowned slightly.
Zhao Chen continued speaking, his voice growing louder and louder.
After the last physical warfare, he was now somewhat disgusted by these people who were looking for trouble. He didn't have any sympathy for those triangular beings, but perhaps because he was a demon, he was particularly disgusted by their contempt for and disdain for beast-body civilization and their attempts to exterminate it.
If you kill someone simply because they pose a threat, then your justice is nothing but hypocrisy built on countless corpses.
Kieran's face darkened.
Keisha spoke up too. "Zhao Chen!"
Zhao Chen didn't stop. He walked up to Kiran and stared at him. "You said the Triangles threatened the God River Entity's position, so they had to be eliminated. Now that the God River Entity is threatening other civilizations, who will eliminate you?"
Kieran suppressed his anger and gradually regained his composure. "Young friend Zhao Chen, I, Kieran, am not doing this for personal gain. It's because the Beast Civilization and the Triangular Civilization are invading and slaughtering other civilizations. I am doing this for the safety of other surrounding civilizations," Kieran explained patiently.
"Hmph! There is no absolute justice between wolves and sheep, only the survival of the fittest. When you are protecting the sheep from the wolves, have you ever thought that the wolves might starve to death as a result?" Zhao Chen said with a face full of disdain.
"Oh? So, according to you, if someone is stronger than you, then even if someone were killed now, you wouldn't have any complaints?" Karl questioned.
If I am weak, then please destroy me. If not, I will surely annihilate those who come after me! Zhao Chen has never been afraid of anyone when it comes to showing off.
Instantly, the hall fell into an eerie silence.
Keisha rose from her throne, her voice as cold as ice. "Enough."
Zhao Chen turned to look at her.
"You don't agree to the cleanup?" Keisha asked.
"disagree."
"reason?"
Zhao Chen remained silent for a moment before speaking. His reasoning was that so-called justice is merely a set of rules set by the strong. The essence of justice is punishment, while forgiveness is divine. His reasoning was that the law of the jungle, survival of the fittest, is the only justice in the universe.
Keisha stared at him for a long time, then finally looked at Kieran. "We'll discuss this later. You go back now."
Kieran bowed slightly, turned, and left. Karl followed behind Kieran, glancing back at Zhao Chen as they exited the hall. This man, if he becomes an enemy in the future, will surely be a great threat.
As Zhao Chen walked out of the main hall, Liang Bing chased after him from behind.
"Brother-in-law, you looked so handsome just now!" Liang Bing walked next to Zhao Chen, looking like a little fangirl.
"Haha, don't be obsessed with me, I'm just a legend."
Pfft! Brother-in-law, you're hilarious.
Zhao Chen suddenly stopped and looked at her. "Liang Bing, do you also think the triangular prism should be eliminated?"
Liang Bing paused for a moment, then replied, "I feel they're not on our side."
"What about the beast's body?"
"Beast bodies..." Liang Bing thought for a moment. Those big guys are indeed quite annoying. But to say they're wiping out an entire race doesn't seem quite right.
Zhao Chen nodded without saying anything more. He turned and walked outside.
"Where are you going?" Liang Bing shouted from behind.
"I need some peace and quiet," Zhao Chen waved his hand.
These past few days, because Keisha was in a bad mood, Zhao Chen deliberately avoided her.
That day, Zhao Chen suddenly remembered that he had promised Keisha he would talk to Liang Bing about her and Karl's discussion of void theory. Before he went, he headed towards Liang Bing's research lab.
When Zhao Chen reached the door of the Super God Academy research lab, he heard Karl's voice.
He stopped in his tracks but didn't go in. He stood there at the entrance of the research lab, silently probing inside with his divine sense.
In the research lab, Karl and Liang Bing were communicating in front of the dark communication terminal. Karl's voice was gentle and patient, like that of a kind and encouraging mentor.
"Today I'm going to talk to you about the concept of ultimate fear. Simply put, it's the existence of higher dimensions beyond the known universe. And our current laws of physics, moral standards, and forms of civilization all seem meaningless in the face of such existence."
Liang Bing's voice suddenly cried out in alarm. "The ultimate fear?"
"What's wrong? Why are you so startled?" Karl asked, puzzled.
"My brother-in-law's nickname is 'Ultimate Fear,'" Liang Bing said casually.
Karl's pupils contracted slightly, and his breathing became a little rapid. His voice, however, remained gentle. "Why would you say that?"
"That's what Hua Ye said." Liang Bing was completely unsuspecting. "Back then, when Hua Ye was on the battlefield, he suddenly seemed like a different person. Then he pointed at my brother-in-law and said, 'This is the ultimate fear.' My sister has never understood what that meant."
Karl paused for two seconds before saying, "Hua Ye's words aren't necessarily all correct."
"I know that. But I always feel like my brother-in-law has some kind of secret, something that seems different from everything else in the known universe." At this point, Liang Bing's voice suddenly lowered. "Karl, if the ultimate fear really existed, what would it be like?"
Carl's voice carried a hint of amusement. "Maybe just like your brother-in-law."
Zhao Chen's pupils contracted slightly, sensing that he was being watched.
Liang Bing was silent for a while. What's my brother-in-law like?
"It surpasses everything in the known universe," Karl said. "The divine bodies of angels, Keisha's righteous order, and the god-making project of the Super God Academy are all ants before it."
Zhao Chen withdrew his divine sense and turned to leave.
His footsteps were so light that no one inside the room noticed. He walked out of the gates of the Super God Academy, stood in the night wind, and looked at the lights in the distance.
Liang Bing was completely unguarded with Karl. She told Karl everything, and Karl now labeled her as the "ultimate fear."
Zhao Chen stood in the night wind for a long time.
He didn't rush to find Liang Bing. Nor did he interrupt the conversation. And he didn't offer any explanation.
Sometimes, the more you explain something, the more confused you become.
