Chapter 71 : Mount Riding Unlocked

Chapter 71 : Mount Riding Unlocked

Mount Riding UnlockedIf nothing unexpected happened, Cecilia would soon have the world's very first flying pet.

By then, she wouldn't have to trudge through maps slowly with Gu Yanxi, nor endure the fervent gazes of other players. She could fully immerse herself in the exhilaration of soaring the skies and save a great deal of time. In any case, she was very much looking forward to it.

A familiar flash of white light passed before her eyes, and Cecilia and Gu Yanxi were transported together to the central plaza of the Main City.

Since it was still summer vacation, even though it was morning, there were already quite a few players logged in. They stood sparsely across the plaza, neither looking for NPCs to pick up quests nor leveling up by fighting monsters in the wilderness. Who knew what they were actually doing.

After being a girl for so long, Cecilia had finally become more confident and composed. As usual, she ignored the passionate stares from those around her and, with practiced ease, took Gu Yanxi's hand. The two of them walked together toward Main City's east gate.

After exiting the city gates and walking for another ten-odd minutes, a vast, boundless prairie unfurled before their eyes.

The Hillside Prairie was an area meant for level 10–15 players, making it perfect for the level 14 Darkwing Demon Bat as well. Cecilia's purpose today was to help the Darkwing Demon Bat reach level 15 as soon as possible and unlock the "Mount Riding" skill.

Because there were too many players at the edge of the wilderness and too few wild monsters, Cecilia hesitated for a moment before leading Gu Yanxi deeper into the prairie.

After another ten minutes or so, Cecilia found a huge, flat boulder, the kind where one could lie down and enjoy the scenery. She and Gu Yanxi climbed up and sat down, and then Cecilia released her enormous Darkwing Demon Bat from her pet inventory.

After reaching level 14, the Darkwing Demon Bat's body size was approaching its limit. When it fully extended its wings, the wingspan was now well over ten meters; a casual flap of its wings could whip up enough wind to flatten the grass, making it almost indistinguishable from its form as a Boss.

Cecilia estimated that after it reached level 15, its size would become fixed, and it probably would not grow larger with subsequent level-ups.

This was for the best—a Darkwing Demon Bat with a wingspan nearing twenty meters and a height almost as tall as a two-story building naturally had an incredibly broad back.

Given this, seating both herself and Gu Yanxi wasn't a problem at all.

Controlling the Darkwing Demon Bat to emit ultrasonic waves, Cecilia quickly locked onto a pack of grassland wolves a few hundred meters away. There were around forty of them—one of the largest packs on the entire Hillside Prairie.

Despite their numbers, the individual wolves weren't particularly strong. The Darkwing Demon Bat could not only fly but also had a size advantage. Picking them off one by one wouldn't be difficult.

After careful consideration in her mind, Cecilia decided to let it handle things on its own.

She casually targeted one grassland wolf and cast【Command: Slaughter】. The Darkwing Demon Bat, with powerful wingbeats, whipped up fierce gales. Its crimson eyes flared with wild ferocity, and it flew straight toward the wolf pack like the ultimate predator.

The grassland wolves didn't even know what had hit them. All they felt was a violent gust of wind, making the tall grass bow low all around.

A grassland wolf on the edge of the pack suddenly stood upright, ears perked, warily scanning the surroundings. The other wolves also stopped in their tracks and slowly backed toward the center.

Their beastly instincts told them that some unknown danger was approaching.

Suddenly, a massive shadow plunged from the sky!

Next, two giant, razor-sharp talons, like scimitars, snatched up a forest wolf by its back and yanked it into the air. The massive wolf, weighing over two hundred pounds, emitted a brief howl of pain, then soared straight up into the sky!

-687!

Rising to over twenty meters, the Darkwing Demon Bat squeezed its claws tight. The poor forest wolf instantly contorted, exploding in midair in a blood-red mist!

Only then did the other forest wolves notice the attacker. While howling sharply toward the sky, they quickly regrouped to prepare for the Darkwing Demon Bat's next strike.

However, the Darkwing Demon Bat clearly didn't take these small grassland wolves seriously. With another furious sweep of its wings, it unleashed a gale, diving down again!

One particularly massive forest wolf kicked off from the ground, leaving a deep pit in the soft grass as it leapt three or four meters into the air, charging straight at the Darkwing Demon Bat's talons from below.

Just as the two ferocious beasts were about to clash, the Darkwing Demon Bat suddenly paused, then swung its wings, summoning a cyclone that sent the massive wolf flying.

In the distance, Cecilia, sitting on the boulder, withdrew her gaze and started chatting with Gu Yanxi.

She knew this battle's outcome was already decided.

In terms of individual combat strength, size, and intelligence, these ordinary grassland wolves were no match for the former world-class boss, the Darkwing Demon Bat. They were not in the same league at all—this fight was destined to be a one-sided massacre.

Sure enough, it took only a few minutes for the pack's Wolf King to be torn to shreds by the Darkwing Demon Bat. Leaderless, the rest of the wolves scattered in panic and were each hunted down and easily killed by the Darkwing Demon Bat.

After the fight, the Darkwing Demon Bat's experience bar rose by only about 5%, still a ways off from reaching level 15.

Cecilia was in no hurry; the threshold for level 15 was always hard to reach, or else so many players wouldn't still be struggling at levels thirteen and fourteen.

It was still early in the morning and she had plenty of time. At this rate, the Darkwing Demon Bat was sure to reach level 15 today.

Having vanquished the forest wolves, the Darkwing Demon Bat had proven to Cecilia that it could now handle itself independently.

Afterward, Cecilia let the Darkwing Demon Bat roam and hunt monsters freely across the Hillside Prairie, while she herself went to collect the loot left by the grassland wolves.

Throughout the morning, thanks to its astonishing sensory abilities, the Darkwing Demon Bat found a total of seven or eight monster groups wandering the prairie.

The weakest was a flock of wild grassland sheep; the strongest, a herd of seven or eight grassland bulls.

Given its current level, the Darkwing Demon Bat still had a tough time dealing with the level 15 grassland bulls. However, with Cecilia's remote support, after a hard-fought battle, it managed to defeat the entire herd.

When the last wild bull collapsed onto the prairie, eyes wide with unwillingness, a red light flashed across the Darkwing Demon Bat, and at last, Cecilia heard System Miss's voice in her mind.

"System notification: Your pet, darkwing Demon Bat, has reached level 15 and unlocked the [Mount Riding] skill!"
