Chapter 41 : Preparation
Chapter 41 : Preparation
PreparationThe importance of a D-class world-class boss went without saying. Within a few minutes, all three of the others, except for Cecilia and Gu Yanxi, arrived one after another and knocked on the door of the inn room.
"What a surprise, little profiteer. I thought you'd have been invited for tea by now, didn't expect to see you here,"
Since the arena was the farthest away, Yuewu was the last to arrive among everyone. As soon as she entered, she saw the Merchant girl dressed as a priest, and spoke with great interest.
Judging by their familiar tone, these two must have been old acquaintances in other online games as well.
"Sister Yuewu, you're joking. As long as there's money to be made, there's nowhere I can't go, right? We only do honest, small-scale business, so don't go spreading rumors outside,"
Little Persimmon Puppy said with a meaningful smile, then no longer paid attention to Yuewu's provocation and instead turned her gaze to Cecilia at the center, earnestly saying, "Sister Lia, if you plan to sell any equipment dropped by this boss, please do let me handle it. To repay your favor this time, I guarantee I can sell it at the best price for you."
On hearing this, Dawn's Light appeared calm on the surface, but inwardly he was a bit displeased. Cecilia had previously promised that the loot from this boss would most likely be reserved for him.
Cecilia showed no reaction, her face calm as her gaze slowly swept over the other three besides Gu Yanxi.
She knew in her heart that these three were all prominent figures in the domestic online gaming community. They ought to have nothing to do with each other, and there might even be minor private grudges. It was entirely up to her to barely hold them together and create the current, relatively harmonious situation.
However, Cecilia also understood that the reason these people could stand together now was nothing more than the upcoming world-class boss raid. During this period, by grabbing onto Cecilia's coattails, Yuewu and Dawn's Light's teams had seen rapid growth and great prospects, even vaguely showing signs of becoming contenders for the top teams in the country.
There's no profit without getting up early and profit comes first—this wasn't said for nothing.
Frankly, all they cared about was her overwhelming power to crush bosses. If she lost this strength, the fragile bonds she barely maintained would shatter instantly. At that time, it would be nowhere near as easy as before to command Dawn's Light and Yuewu to help her gather materials as she pleased.
Although the five-person party now had enough members, aside from herself and Gu Yanxi, the other three together were nothing more than a loose alliance. Realizing this only strengthened Cecilia's determination to immediately establish a guild.
Just reaching level 15, the entry point of the game, had nearly claimed her life not long ago; it went without saying that as the levels rose, the challenges of leveling in the future would only get harder.
Many hands make light work. If she wanted to level steadily in the future, she needed to cultivate some reliable tools of her own.
"It's a bit too early to discuss loot distribution now—let's talk after the boss is down. We have enough people and nothing more to explain. Let's set out."
Eager to claim the D-class boss, everyone readily agreed to Cecilia's words. Cecilia initiated the party, and the other four joined in succession. Thus, the team that could be called Legend of Kaloran's strongest player squad formally set out toward the city outskirts.
Leaving the city gates and crossing the swamp, this fully armed team, comprised of national server's top elites, attracted the attention of other nearby players, who gathered to spectate.
"That's... Cecilia, right? She's finally going after that D-class world boss?"
"Damn, everyone's in a full set—that must've cost a fortune."
"Big news! Come on, let's go watch the show!"
"Anyone here get what's going on? Can the five of them really defeat this world-class boss?"
No one knew who suddenly asked, but the onlooking crowd immediately exploded into debate.
"That's tough to say. Their lineup is really fierce. Not to mention Cecilia—I played her video in slow motion a dozen times and still couldn't make sense of her movements. She's a total monster."
"Exactly! Not to mention Dawn's Light and Yuewu—they're both top-tier on the national server. I checked before logging off last night: Yuewu already has over 700 arena win streaks, even more than Cecilia. Looks like she's already locked in as the first legendary mage on the server."
"Anyone know the tall priest girl? I ran into her in the arena yesterday... Get this, her heal one-shotted me. Unreal..."
"That's the one who always teams with Cecilia, right? I don't really know her either, but she's probably another new monster."
After leaving the city gates, Yuewu noticed that Little Persimmon Puppy had the lowest level among everyone, only level 9. Among average players, that might be decent, but compared to the other four monsters, all over level 10, the difference was obvious.
"I mean, little profiteer, with your level this low, why are you even joining the party? Better pack up and go home now—just don't drag us down later,"
Yuewu turned to strike while the iron was hot and sent an interaction request.
Confronted by Yuewu's provocation, the Merchant girl's face flashed a hint of annoyance as she looked straight ahead and replied coolly, "Aren't you dragging us down too? Stop acting all high and mighty. Instead of worrying about my level, you should watch your own back."
As they ventured deeper into the wilds, the surrounding woods grew denser and monsters on the path became more frequent.
Occasionally, they'd encounter a few mobs, but they didn't need Cecilia to act at all—Yuewu's a few Ice Arrows easily finished them off. No one cared for the items they dropped, which were quickly scavenged by a group of players following behind them like hyenas, competing for every scrap.
They were about to reach the edge of the Mutant Jungle when the child-faced, big-breasted Merchant girl suddenly said, "By the way, isn't this area sealed off by Dragon Abyss? How are we getting in? Sneaking in doesn't seem right—I'll just pay them a toll."
After all, she was a professional Merchant and, judging by her appearance, probably wealthier than Yuewu in real life. She seemed to believe any problem that could be solved with money wasn't a problem at all.
"Dragon Abyss? Please. In other games I might worry, but if they dare block me here, I'll blast their heads off!"
Yuewu sneered.
"You can't say that. A starved camel is still bigger than a horse. Even if they haven't benefited from world-class bosses early on, older, established teams still have their reserves. I heard Dragon Abyss spent big recently to recruit a few retired pro-players, some of whom might even be from Han Country. Not sure if it's true or not."
As the eldest in the group, Dawn's Light's words carried weight—steady, reasonable, and persuasive.
