Chapter 1141 - 1130: Favoring Daughters Over Sons
Chapter 1141 - 1130: Favoring Daughters Over Sons
Upon hearing the news that Ye Qing was coming to Jing City, Ye Qiu just laughed it off. He wouldn’t interfere anymore. Even if the future didn’t go well for her, that was what she wanted. But expecting him to help Cao Wentao’s business was impossible.
Gradually, Cao Wentao also realized the fact that his girlfriend and her brother didn’t get along well. He was unwilling, but there was nothing he could do. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to give up Ye Qing.
No matter what, wasn’t Ye Qing Ye Qiu’s elder sister? And he knew how extravagant his girlfriend was with money; there was no way Ye Qing’s salary could cover it.
He knew that his girlfriend’s parents were financially supporting her. He thought that if he and Ye Qing got married, wouldn’t they also get financial support in the future? Could Ye Qiu really ignore his own parents?
So, naturally, the two got married several years earlier than in their past lives. When Ye Qiu received the invitation, he just laughed it off. He had long predicted this outcome.
The wedding was held in Jing City. At Ye Qiu’s wedding six months ago, Ye Peilin and Han Hui hadn’t attended. This time, however, the whole family showed up, including the grandparents, both paternal and maternal. They handled all the accommodation and transportation themselves, showing exceptional care.
Even when Cao Wentao used the excuse of company cash flow issues to offer a small dowry, they didn’t mind. Instead, they added a dowry of five hundred thousand, and even the grandparents chipped in with fifty thousand each. There were also countless gold ornaments.
Cao Wentao looked on enviously. He knew he had made the right marriage choice. Then he looked at the gift money Ye Qiu gave, which was only eight thousand eight hundred, and frowned slightly but managed to hide his dissatisfaction.
But while he didn’t say anything, others did. Han Hui spoke up first: "Why didn’t your wife come? Does she still have issues with Qingqing?"
"She’s pregnant and not feeling well, so I didn’t let her come."
"Pregnant?" Han Hui frowned. "Since when?"
"When we got married. I told you back then."
Han Hui was momentarily speechless. She obviously hadn’t paid attention, so she didn’t ask much more and shifted the topic to the gift money: "You’ve made something of yourself now. Your sister’s getting married, and you only give eight thousand eight? Aren’t you afraid the groom’s side will laugh?"
"What should I be afraid of? Didn’t you already give plenty? The groom’s side is probably overjoyed." Ye Qiu smirked, looking indifferent with his hands in his pockets.
"She’s your real sister. Shouldn’t we add a base for her confidence when she’s marrying?"
"As you said, she’s my real sister. What did she give when I got married?"
"You really hold a grudge. I’ve told you before, you were too stubborn back then, and your dad and I were just too angry to attend your wedding. Why can’t you understand that? The house and everything else will belong to you in the future."
"Don’t tell me these things. It wouldn’t matter if you gave everything to Ye Qing; I’ve never taken advantage of you. I don’t want to, neither in the past nor in the future. How you care for Ye Qing is your business, not mine. The fact that I’m here today is already giving her face. If you think I’m stubborn, so be it. Anyway, her matters have nothing to do with me." After saying this, Ye Qiu left, not giving Ye Peilin a chance to get angry.
"Ungrateful child, getting cocky now that he’s grown wings, forgetting who gave birth to and raised him." Ye Peilin trembled with anger, while the four elders just shook their heads.
Just because of the matter of gift money at Ye Qing’s wedding, when He Xixian gave birth, Ye Peilin and Han Hui didn’t show up. It was He Xixian’s parents who were busy running about. Fortunately, Ye Qiu was reliable, so they had no complaints.
"I’ve seen the child. It’s a boy." The He family parents went with the nurse to the nursery, while Ye Qiu stayed outside the delivery room waiting for He Xixian. When he saw her come out, he quickly took her hand to share the good news.
He Xixian looked exhausted but still insisted on asking, "Does he look like you or me?"
"His eyes aren’t open, but the eye slits are big. The doctor said his eyes won’t be small in the future, so he probably looks like you."
He Xixian felt a moment of disappointment but was still delighted, and with Ye Qiu’s comforting, she fell into a deep sleep.
Upon hearing the news of Ye Qiu’s child being born, Han Hui thought about visiting, but Ye Peilin wouldn’t allow it, so she dropped the idea.
She thought it over; since her son already had poor relations with them and her daughter-in-law didn’t like them either, the grandson probably wouldn’t be close to them in the future. There was no need to put in too much effort. Besides, weren’t the in-laws there? Her presence might even stir up conflict.
Though she didn’t go see her own grandson, when her daughter Ye Qing became pregnant, she was more attentive than anyone else, even arranging for early retirement, simply because Ye Qing’s mother-in-law said she had no time, and Cao Wentao couldn’t manage either, so she had to do it herself.
Taking care of a pregnant woman isn’t easy, especially since Ye Qing was exceptionally picky and had grown quite irritable after becoming pregnant. She wanted to eat this today and that tomorrow, with preferences changing daily, and would criticize Han Hui if things didn’t go smoothly.
Generally, during such times, Cao Wentao would avoid speaking, sometimes even leaving the house. Han Hui couldn’t be angry with her pregnant daughter, and within just three months, she had aged significantly.
This wasn’t the hardest part, though. The most exhausting part came after Ye Qing gave birth. She had to both serve the new mother and care for the infant, along with all the household chores. Throughout Ye Qing’s month of confinement, she barely had a good night’s sleep.
Despite her generally good nature, Han Hui grew impatient, yet she couldn’t leave or dare to vent her frustration on her daughter and son-in-law. So when Ye Qiu and He Xixian visited her, she couldn’t hold back anymore.
"Your sister had her baby a long time ago, and you’re only visiting now?"
"Mom, I’ve told you before; she has nothing to do with me. Xianxian and I are here to see you," Ye Qiu said calmly.
"And I’ve been so busy I haven’t seen you helping at all. Is this your idea of filial piety?" Han Hui said, glaring.
"You did this voluntarily. Ye Qing has her own mother-in-law and husband."
"They’re either busy or inexperienced."
"But you arranged for early retirement. Can’t Ye Qing’s mother-in-law do the same? Besides, haven’t you always said how capable Cao Wentao is? If he’s so capable, why doesn’t he hire a couple of nannies?" Ye Qiu retorted with a slight smile, echoing their past words.
"That would be wasteful, and I wouldn’t trust outsiders."
"That’s why I say you brought this on yourself. Why are you taking it out on me? When Xianxian had her baby, it was my father-in-law and mother-in-law who took care of things, and you didn’t lift a finger. So I can’t understand why you’re angry at me now."
Left speechless by her son’s retort, Han Hui could only stew in her own frustration, unable to find anything else to say. In the end, she was left to bear the burden alone.
