Chapter 28 Girl, you've mistaken me for someone else.
Chapter 28 Girl, you've mistaken me for someone else.
The gatekeeper found this scene a little strange, but didn't think much of it.
The big yellow dog has long since developed intelligence. Sometimes it is even more affectionate towards people than towards other dogs. It will wag its tail when it sees strangers, which is not unusual.
Not long after, the disciple who had delivered the message returned, followed by a middle-aged man. The man was wearing a gray robe, had a thin face, and looked to be around forty years old. He walked with his back ramrod straight, clearly a martial artist.
"Who is looking for a fiancé?" the middle-aged man asked.
Ye Qing quickly stepped forward and explained the situation again.
The middle-aged man frowned after hearing this. "Young lady, we have many disciples in our manor, but they all have connections. It's impossible that they wouldn't even know their fiancée. Are you mistaken?"
"No, no, my father told me himself that it's Wanjian Manor." Ye Qing stamped his feet anxiously. "Can you just let me in and look for it? I'll search around, and if I can't find it, I'll leave."
The middle-aged man hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Okay, go in and look. But don't wander around, and come out when you're done."
"Thank you!" Ye Qing bowed, then turned and tugged at Su Yang's sleeve. "Come on, little blind man, come inside with me to look."
Su Yang was pulled inside by her.
As they passed the two gatekeepers, the big yellow dog followed them again, circling Su Yang's legs twice and wagging its tail.
Su Yang neither bowed his head nor spoke. He simply leaned on his bamboo cane and walked step by step into the gate of Wanjian Manor.
The wind blew down from the mountain, carrying the scent of bamboo leaves. Su Yang's face remained calm, but unnoticed by anyone, his lips trembled slightly.
Wanjian Manor is very large, much larger than Ye Qing had imagined. From the front mountain to the back mountain, there are twenty or thirty courtyards of various sizes, complete with training grounds, sword storage pavilions, disciple rooms, dining halls, and council halls.
Ye Qing wandered around inside for almost half an hour, until she was completely dizzy. Forget about finding her fiancé, she could barely tell which way was which.
Su Yang followed behind her without saying a word.
He knew every road, every tree, and every stone here so well that he could recognize the place with his eyes closed.
But he couldn't show it.
"Excuse me, senior brother, do you know a male disciple who is around twenty years old?" Ye Qing stopped a passing disciple and asked with a smile.
The disciple sized her up. "There are plenty of women around twenty years old. Which one are you looking for?"
"I don't know which one it is, it's my fiancé."
"You don't even know who your fiancé is?"
"We've been betrothed since childhood, haven't we met before?" Ye Qing smiled sheepishly. "Could you ask him for me? He's probably a disciple around twenty years old. I don't know his surname or given name, I just know he's a disciple of Wanjian Manor."
The disciple looked at her as if she were an idiot, shook his head, and left.
Ye Qing sighed and continued walking forward, with Su Yang following behind, his lips twitching slightly.
Over the next half hour, Ye Qing asked several more disciples, and the answers were all similar: either they didn't know, or they looked at her like she was an idiot, or they gave her a few perfunctory words and left.
"Little blind man, do you think my fiancé actually exists?" Ye Qing was a little discouraged.
"Your dad wouldn't lie to you, would he?"
"My dad, you know..." Ye Qing thought for a moment, "you can't believe everything he says."
Su Yang: "..."
The two walked a little further and came to a side hall. Several disciples were sweeping the floor at the entrance of the hall. When they saw them coming, they looked up at them and then continued sweeping.
Just as Ye Qing was about to step forward to ask, Su Yang suddenly stopped, his righteous energy trembling within him.
People are coming, and there's more than one person.
Footsteps came from around the corner ahead. Su Yang could hear them clearly; there were two people, one in front and one behind.
The sound of two people's footsteps grew closer.
A voice came from around the corner ahead. It was a woman's voice, clear and cold, with an undeniable air of authority, as if she were giving instructions.
"This batch of pills needs to be delivered to the Hidden Sword Pavilion as soon as possible. The disciples at the peak are waiting to use them. If you delay, I will hold you responsible."
"Yes, Senior Sister Luo Luo, I'll take care of it right away," another voice replied, and then the heavy footsteps faded into the distance.
Su Yang gripped the bamboo cane tightly.
Senior Sister Luo Luo? It's Chen Luo Luo!
He stood there, his expression unchanged, but the fingers gripping the bamboo cane turned white one by one, and his knuckles cracked.
Just as Ye Qing was about to turn the corner, Su Yang suddenly grabbed her sleeve.
"This way," he said.
"Why? Wouldn't it be there if we just turned the corner?"
"It's closer here."
Ye Qing glanced at him suspiciously, but didn't ask any further questions, and followed him in another direction.
The two people walked around the side hall, took a detour, and came out through another path. As they came out, they brushed past someone.
The man was dressed in white, with a long sword hanging at his waist. He was tall and straight, with a cold and beautiful face and a heroic air between his brows.
She looks very young, like she's in her late twenties, much more mature than she was back then, but her face is still the same face, with delicate eyebrows and eyes, and slightly upturned corners of her mouth, exactly the same as when she was a child, except for some things left by the years.
As Su Yang walked past her, he didn't stop. His bamboo cane tapped the ground as he walked at a steady pace, just like he always did.
His face was turned forward, his expression as calm as a still pond, and no one knew how fast his heart was beating.
Chen Luoluo had already walked past.
She had just finished giving instructions and was on her way to practice her swordsmanship on the back mountain when she passed by these two people. She didn't pay any attention to them at first, as it was not unusual for outsiders to visit the manor occasionally.
But after taking two steps, she suddenly stopped. She stood still, her brows furrowed slightly, and then slowly, very slowly, turned her head.
The blind man's back view, the back view of him leaning on a bamboo cane, walking steadily step by step.
Chen Luoluo's eyes suddenly widened.
That figure from behind... she knew it all too well.
"Junior Brother?" he blurted out almost without thinking, his voice not loud but very clear.
Su Yang paused for a moment, but only for a second, and then continued walking forward.
Chen Luoluo saw it. She saw his shoulders tremble slightly and his steps falter for a moment. Although it was only for a split second, she saw it.
She quickly caught up with him, reached out, and grabbed Su Yang's arm.
"Junior Brother!"
Su Yang stood there, his arm held tightly by her, unable to move.
Ye Qing was startled by this sudden situation and stood there dumbfounded, not knowing what had happened.
Su Yang took a deep breath. "Miss," his voice was flat, as flat as a blank sheet of paper, "you've mistaken me for someone else. I'm just a blind man who's brought my sister here to find her family."
Chen Luoluo didn't loosen her grip. She stared at Su Yang's face, at his bandaged eyes, at his young yet excessively weathered face.
Like.
They look so alike.
The face shape was similar, the nose was similar, the mouth was similar, even the tone of voice was similar. The only difference was that the junior brother in her memory always spoke with a lazy tone, as if he didn't care about anything and everything was under his control.
The person in front of me spoke very calmly, as if he were reading aloud, as if he was deliberately suppressing something.
"Junior brother, you finally decided to come back?"
"I am not your junior brother; I am just a blind man. Please have some self-respect, young lady."
Chen Luoluo looked at the man in front of her, whose eyes were red, and his eyes were covered by white silk.
"Where are you from?"
"Qingniu Village".
Have you been to Wanjian Manor before?
"no."
Chen Luoluo stared at him for a long time.
"You're lying!" she said, enunciating each word clearly.
Su Yang's expression remained calm.
"Young lady, why would I lie to you?" he said. "I'm blind, and it's inconvenient for me to go anywhere. I'm already fortunate to have come to Wanjian Manor thanks to this young lady. If I had stayed here before, why would I need her to lead the way?"
Chen Luoluo's hands were trembling. She gripped Su Yang's arm tightly, as if he would disappear if she let go.
"Young lady, you've really mistaken me for someone else." Su Yang withdrew his hand, his voice still calm. "I'm just a blind man, not some junior brother. The person you're looking for may no longer be alive, or may be living a different life somewhere else. In any case, I am not him. Please have some self-respect."
Chen Luoluo finally let go of Su Yang's hand. She stood there, looking at him with disbelief in her eyes.
so similar.
But she knew he wasn't the one.
but……
"How did you go blind?" Chen Luoluo suddenly asked.
"Poisoning," Su Yang said. "It happened many years ago."
"What kind of poison?"
"I don't know," Su Yang said. "It was a traveling doctor who said that there's no cure for my poison, and that I'd be lucky to survive."
Chen Luoluo stared at him, her lips trembling. She opened her mouth, wanting to ask something, but couldn't get anything out.
Su Yang turned around, leaning on his bamboo cane, and continued walking forward.
"Where are you going?" Chen Luoluo called out from behind.
Su Yang did not stop.
"Stop right there!"
Su Yang still didn't stop.
"I have another question for you!"
Su Yang went further and further away.
Chen Luoluo knelt on the ground and murmured, "Perhaps I've really missed him all these years; everyone I see looks like him."
Her hands were trembling, and her lips were trembling too.
"Senior Sister Luo Luo?" Ye Qing called out timidly, still standing in the same spot.
Chen Luoluo snapped out of her daze and glanced at her.
"Who are you to him?"
"I am..." Ye Qing thought for a moment, "I am his sister."
"Little sister?" Chen Luoluo's gaze lingered on her for a moment, but she didn't speak.
Ye Qing didn't know what to do, so she said, "I'm leaving first," and then jogged to catch up with Su Yang.
