Chapter 20 Blackwater Jackals
Chapter 20 Blackwater Jackals
Lu Chen said this for two reasons. First, he was Chinese, and since they were all overseas and mercenaries, they shouldn't hurt each other. Second, he didn't want to make enemies with Blackwater Security.
The assassin looked deeply at Lu Chen, deeply moved. In Iraq, where bloodshed was rampant, it was rare to encounter someone like him. He said softly, "I am a mercenary employed by Blackwater Security, Black Iron rank, codename Jackal. As for the client's information, it is a company secret and cannot be disclosed."
"You're a jackal, which makes you quite suitable for our werewolf mercenary group," James said frankly, then laughed twice.
Lu Chen was certain that Rahman had assigned him the task. Even if Rahman hadn't said anything, Lu Chen could have guessed it. He smiled and said, "My name is Lu Chen, a temporary member of the Werewolf Mercenary Group."
He had already planned to leave, and couldn't admit to being a werewolf anymore.
"You're born to be a mercenary," the jackal said with a laugh.
"Take good care of your injuries," Lu Chen said, patting the jackal on the shoulder.
After he finished speaking, he nodded to Mike and the others, and walked out of the yard.
Mike waved to Faisal and said, "Send five security guards to watch over and protect him. If he wants to leave, let him leave."
Faisal agreed and turned to leave.
Lu Chen smiled slightly. He knew that this was just to be on the safe side, since the Jackals were there to kill the werewolf mercenary group. He thought for a moment and said, "Mike, Blackwater is too arrogant. They only sent one Black Iron mercenary. They don't take us seriously at all."
"If one person completes it, the commission is for that person. If five people complete it, the commission is split among five people. If you want to make money, you have to work hard. Luckily, I have you, otherwise I would be dead today. Thank you." Mike looked at Lu Chen and said sincerely.
Lu Chen was speechless. What he said made sense; one person could earn more. He couldn't help but look back at the courtyard. This person was really working hard.
"Alright, let's go to the other courtyard to rest. We need to have a couple of drinks tonight," Mike said, patting Lu Chen on the shoulder.
Lu Chen nodded slightly. He looked up at the village entrance, where dozens of pickup trucks and several tanks were parked. The scene looked quite spectacular.
Some villagers were admiring the car, and several children were running around carefree. But who would remember that just last night, this place was engulfed in gunfire?
He gave a wry smile and followed Mike to another courtyard, where James, Anthony, and Alex had already lit a bonfire and roasted a sheep.
The aroma of roasted meat wafted through the courtyard, attracting several children from the village entrance to watch from the gate, their lips licking incessantly.
Mike was a nice guy; he yelled at James, "Give some of the roasted meat to the kids."
James answered loudly, cut pieces of roasted mutton with his knife, put them on an iron plate, filling the plate to the brim, and took it to the gate of the yard.
The children swarmed forward, grabbed the meat, and ran away.
Lu Chen gave Mike a thumbs up and said, "Mike, you're a good guy." That was his assessment of him. In fact, as a mercenary, and a captain at that, being too kind could easily get him killed.
Mike picked up the bottle, raised it, and said, "It's alright. Since I came to this place, I don't plan to leave. At the very least, I want to make sure everyone in this village has food to eat."
"Why do you want to find a wife and settle down here?" Lu Chen asked, puzzled. Although he knew his ideals, this was too idealistic.
Changing a country is not something one or two people can do, nor is it something that can be done in a day or two; that's very dangerous.
"Werewolves are my life, my ideal. If werewolves want to rise, this is an opportunity," Mike said in a low voice after taking a sip of his drink.
"I wish you success." Lu Chen was slightly taken aback, but quickly recovered. He raised the bottle and said, then took a sip. Everyone has their own ideals. Mike also has one. The growth and expansion of the Werewolf Mercenary Group is his ideal. Lu Chen's ideal is to return to China and be an ordinary person.
As night fell, the campfire illuminated the courtyard. Lu Chen and his companions had drunk quite a bit. Anthony James danced around the campfire, while Alex tapped his chopsticks on his plate. Lu Chen and Mike talked and drank together.
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out, shattering the silence of the night.
Mike and Lu Chen stood up almost simultaneously, while James Anthony and Alex stopped moving and calmly looked up at the night sky.
Not long after, several gunshots rang out in succession. The sound was somewhat far away, but it was very clear in the darkness.
Mike decisively told Lu Chen and the others, "Check equipment and be on alert."
Lu Chen and his group quickly donned their gear and checked their weapons; in less than a few minutes, they were fully dressed.
"Boss, judging from the sound, it should be to the west, a few miles away. I'll go check it out with Alex," Lu Chen said decisively.
Mike glanced at the two men, nodded, and said, "Tell us immediately if anything happens."
The two nodded vigorously and rushed outside. There were plenty of pickup trucks outside, so they got into one. Alex drove, and the truck roared like a wild beast as it sped off towards the main road to the west.
Lu Chen sat in the passenger seat, staring wide-eyed ahead. After driving for a few minutes and about ten miles, just as the two were about to turn back, several cars suddenly appeared in front of them.
A Hummer sped ahead, followed closely by two pickup trucks, each carrying five people who kept firing.
Lu Chen frowned slightly. The Hummer belonged to Adil, and the two pickup trucks should belong to Rahman. What was going on? Had Adil's men been attacked by Rahman?
The Hummer was swaying precariously, clearly indicating that the people inside were having a very difficult time. If no one came to their rescue, they might die. Thinking of this, Lu Chen turned on the walkie-talkie and shouted, "Boss, Adila is being chased and is in critical condition. Proceed with the rescue immediately. The two of us will begin the rescue."
Without waiting for Mike's reply, he shouted at Alex, "Charge them!" He then gripped his submachine gun, ready to fire at any moment.
Alex knew the situation was critical, so he slammed on the gas pedal. The pickup truck roared like a beast and sped forward at high speed, closing the distance rapidly to less than 100 meters.
Lu Chen had to take action. He gripped his submachine gun, smashed the car window, mounted the gun on the vehicle, quickly aimed, and pulled the trigger.
Bang! Bang! Bang! A series of gunshots rang out. The three armed men in the first vehicle were shot, let out a scream, and fell off the vehicle.
Just then, the Hummer came from the opposite direction, and Adile saw Lu Chen. Adile shouted, "Lu Chen, save me!"
