Chapter 67 The Bet
Chapter 67 The Bet
Upon hearing this, Lu Ye not only didn't get angry, but instead chuckled.
"Truly shameless." Lu Ye's tone was calm, yet every word was piercing. "But you didn't say how many matches we'd have. According to the rules, I've already won after one match."
Borislav gritted his teeth and shouted, "Are you scared? As a mercenary, you think you can just run away after winning a single battle by sneak attack? If you're so cowardly, you might as well go back to your hometown and suckle! In the world of mercenaries, might makes right!"
The mercenaries in the surrounding stands were a group of desperados who thrived on chaos, and upon hearing Borislav's incitement, they immediately began to stir up trouble.
"New recruit! Don't be a coward! Keep fighting!"
"Exactly! If you don't even have this much guts, what kind of battlefield are you on, what kind of Morozovsk are you?"
"The Grizzly team isn't finished yet! Why are you running?"
"Coward! I think he just got lucky, like a blind cat stumbling upon a dead mouse!"
The cacophony of shouting echoed through the basement.
These people don't care who is right or wrong, who wins or loses.
Lu Ye listened to the harsh sounds around him. Sure enough, in the world of mercenaries, only strength can earn respect. A good punch can save you from a hundred.
"Of course," Lu Ye said, looking at Borislav. "But why should I compete with you for nothing? How about we add some stakes?"
Lu Ye paused, then continued, "Furthermore, you decided on the format of the last competition. This time, I must decide what to compete in!"
Upon hearing this, Borislav, who had been so arrogant, became hesitant and his expression shifted.
He had no idea what other bizarre competition methods Lu Ye would propose.
If they lose again, the Grizzlies will have completely lost face.
Seeing Borislav hesitate, the mercenaries in the stands immediately turned their attention to him.
"Hey! Borislav, why are you mute?"
"The Grizzly Squad leader wouldn't be so afraid to take a bet on a rookie, would he?"
"Say yes! Don't embarrass us old mercenaries!"
The surrounding laughter slapped Borislav across the face.
"Fine! I promise you! Tell me, what do you want to compete in?" Borislav glared fiercely at Lu Ye.
Lu Ye's lips curled into a cold smile: "A sniping contest. You dare?"
Upon hearing the word "sniper," Borislav was taken aback and turned to look at his tall teammate who had remained silent.
The tall man met Borislav's gaze and nodded.
"I promise you!" Borislav shouted immediately. "What's the wager?"
"Didn't you say before that you'd give me a DVL-10 sniper rifle worth $20,000 if I joined the Grizzlies?" Lu Ye stared at him.
"If I win, this equipment is mine, plus an extra $20,000 in cash! If I lose, I'll offer $100,000. How about it?"
"You're also joining our Grizzly Bears team!"
Lu Ye chuckled: "You've really got a good plan."
"no problem!"
"It's a deal!" Borislav, fearing Lu Ye might change his mind, immediately turned and shouted to the crowd, "Let's go! To the outdoor firing range in the logistics area!"
The crowd immediately erupted in cheers, shoving and pushing their way toward the firing range on the ground.

Meanwhile, in a VIP box above the basement stands.
Vasily was standing upright beside the sofa, holding a handkerchief in his hand, which was already soaked.
Sitting on the leather sofa in front of him was a Russian woman wearing a burgundy deep-V long dress.
The woman's blonde hair cascaded over her snow-white shoulders; she was stunningly beautiful with a voluptuous figure, and even the loose skirt couldn't conceal her exaggerated curves.
But Vasily didn't dare to look at it for long.
It was the female officer whom Lu Ye had encountered twice.
She changed her clothes and put on makeup, and her entire demeanor underwent a dramatic transformation. Even if Lu Ye had only glanced at her from the outside, he would never have recognized her.
The female officer crossed her long legs, gently swirling the red wine in her wine glass, her gaze fixed on the vast crowd leaving below through the glass.
"Is this the person you greeted in the corridor yesterday?" The female officer's red lips parted slightly, her voice carrying a hint of languor. "The Lu Ye you reported?"
Vasily immediately bowed his head, his tone respectful: "Yes, sir. It is him."
"Didn't your report say he was just cannon fodder?" The female officer turned her head, her deep blue eyes fixed on Vasily.
"His close-quarters combat in the cage just now, whether in terms of explosive power or the use of joint locks, didn't seem like that of a recruit."
"If there are no problems with what you said in your report, then his growth rate is simply too unreasonable."
Vasily swallowed hard and explained, "There is one thing about him that is truly unusual, and that is his exceptional talent for shooting."
"I know, I've seen the report you submitted. He killed many Ukrainian soldiers and shot down several drones!"
"But your report didn't show that he also had such strong close-combat skills."
Vasily raised his hand and wiped the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief, his mind racing.
"Sir, he might have some skill in close combat, or he might have secretly trained. But back in the trenches, he was just cannon fodder, and I never witnessed his close-combat abilities."
She nodded, seemingly accepting Vasily's explanation.
She took a sip of red wine, pondered for a moment, and suddenly said, "Since he has such a strong shooting talent... what do you think about including him in tomorrow's top-secret operation?"
Vasily's heart sank, and he quickly stepped forward: "Sir, isn't this a bit inappropriate? Tomorrow's operation is of great importance; we're already close to enemy-controlled territory, and the danger level is extremely high."
"No matter what, he's just a recruit with no special operations experience. If he makes a mistake at a crucial moment, it will implicate the entire squad!"
The female officer's fingers traced the rim of her glass, and she pondered for a moment: "You're right. This mission cannot afford the slightest mistake."
At this point, the female officer stood up, walked to the glass, and looked at the empty iron cage: "Didn't they just say they were going to the shooting range to test their sniping skills? Come on, let's go to the monitoring room and take a look. We'll make a decision after we see the results of his sniping competition."
Vasily had no room for argument and could only quickly bow his head and reply, "Yes, sir!"

The outdoor tactical firing range in the camp's logistics area.
As dusk approached, the shooting range was unusually lively, filled with mercenaries.
Lu Ye and Borislav stood facing each other.
"What are we competing in? What are the rules?" Borislav asked coldly.
Lu Ye pointed to the communal firearms displayed at the shooting range: "The simplest way. Compare shooting distances. To be fair, none of us will use our own guns."
Lu Ye walked to the gun rack and picked up a sniper rifle: "Use the SV-98M sniper rifle provided by the camp's firing range. The scopes are also standardized."
"The rules are simple: start at 800 meters, then 1,000 meters, 1,200 meters, and 1,500 meters. You can only shoot one shot per round. Only by hitting the bullseye (ten rings) can you advance to the next round."
"Whoever shoots the furthest and hits the bullseye wins. If both miss from the same distance, the one closest to the bullseye wins."
