Chapter 25 Departure
Chapter 25 Departure
Time flies, and it was already nine o'clock in the evening.
Behind a dilapidated bunker on the edge of Camp 17, all members of Dmitry's squad were fully armed.
The injured Peter was carried on a makeshift stretcher by Anton and Maxim, their faces filled with solemnity and repression.
There is only one hour left before the evacuation time.
Dmitri walked to the corner where Lu Ye was, took out a slightly wrinkled pack of cigarettes from his pocket, took one out and handed it to Lu Ye, and then lit one for himself.
The red glow of the cigarette butt flickered in the darkness, illuminating the silent faces of the two men.
"Lu." Dmitri took a deep drag of his cigarette and slowly exhaled. "This afternoon, I met with Yuri alone."
Lu Ye paused slightly, holding the cigarette between his fingers, and looked up at his captain, who was loyal and kind to him.
"We're not on the same wavelength. I'm disgusted by his willingness to sell his soul for money."
"But in this camp, there's no official organization, no powerful backers. Even if you're on a reconnaissance mission at a chemical plant, you'll still come back alive."
"Worov will drain you dry sooner or later, and then bury you in some random bomb crater."
After saying that, Dmitri patted Lu Ye on the shoulder.
"Yuri promised me. As long as you can complete the reconnaissance mission assigned by Vorov alive, he will let you join the Undertaker's 'Black Scythe' squad and become a temporary mercenary."
Lu Ye's heart skipped a beat.
"This is my way of making it up to you."
"A temporary mercenary, someone who sells their life for money. Under the protection of the Undertaker, Vorov wouldn't dare openly treat you as a expendable resource."
"And Yuri promised me that, depending on the results of the battles, you will have the opportunity to be promoted at any time."
"Moreover, private armed forces operate with far greater flexibility than our regular army; they have their own satellite channels. In some ways, they might be a better fit for you!"
Dmitry threw the remaining half of his cigarette on the ground and stomped it out. "You must succeed in tomorrow's reconnaissance mission!"
"Thank you, Captain."
Dmitry stared silently at Lu Ye, then punched Lu Ye hard in the chest before turning and walking toward the team members who were checking their equipment.
"Set off!"
Watching Dmitri's retreating figure and Maxim waving in the darkness, Lu Ye's emotions gradually subsided.
He cannot die. He must not only live, but also tear apart everything in his way with the most ferocious attitude!
[Current host lifespan: 15 days]
Current points: 1400
Tomorrow's reconnaissance mission at the chemical plant will be absolutely nightmarish in terms of danger.
To survive in this desperate situation, he must convert all his points into immediate combat power!
"Exchange for one [Adrenaline (single-use consumable)], costing 300 points."
"Exchange for [Glimmer Vision (Passive)], costing 1000 points."
The moment the exchange was completed, Lu Ye felt an unbearable stinging and throbbing pain in his eyes.
But the excruciating pain came and went quickly. When he opened his eyes again a dozen seconds later, the whole world had changed!
The pitch-black camp, which was originally pitch black, now appeared as a strange gray-green outline in his vision.
The 1400 points instantly turned into 100 points, but Lu Ye's enhancement was not yet over.
"Perception attribute increased by 1 point!"
On the contrary, the enhanced perception, without intense pain, brings a sense of cleansing clarity to the brain.
Lu Ye felt a slight thud in his eardrums, and then the sounds of the surrounding world flooded into his mind like a tide!
His five senses were greatly enhanced, and his brain processed information from the external environment at a qualitative leap.
He could hear the conversation of two patrolling soldiers fifty meters away; he could sense changes in the humidity of the air; and he could clearly feel the speed and direction of the wind.
He was even able to detect the frequency of the vibrations as raindrops hit the tarpaulin.
The sense of stagnation that used to occasionally occur on the battlefield has completely disappeared, replaced by an instinctive sense of danger in the surroundings.
Finally, Lu Ye turned his attention to the mission reward he had just received, and after considering it for a moment...
"Put 1 skill point into [Basic Camouflage]!"
A vast amount of memories and muscle instincts were roughly crammed into Lu Ye's mind.
If LV1 basic camouflage only taught him how to lie still in the grass, then LV2 camouflage is a complete tactical transformation!
He looked around at his surroundings. The ruins, the mud, and even the swaying shadows of the trees in front of him turned into "geometric shadow areas," "visual blind spots," and "light blind spots."
He mastered how to use different colors of mud to break up the reflections on his face.
I learned how to adjust my breathing rate to minimize heat loss from my body.
Even the muscles have developed an instinctive memory for switching stealth postures in different terrains.
Feeling the transformative changes within his body, Lu Ye slowly clenched his fists, his bones cracking with a crisp sound.
At 22:00 PM, the deafening roar of the rotor blades tore through the silence of the night sky precisely on time.
An unpainted Mi-8 military helicopter landed at an abandoned farm five kilometers west of the camp.
Dmitry, Alexei, Anton, and others carried the wounded onto the plane, clinging to the cabin door and letting the fierce wind whip their faces.
A moment later, the helicopter took off and gradually became a small red dot in the night sky.
Lu Ye withdrew his gaze, turned around and returned to the camp. There was only one hour left before departure, and he still had important things to do.
11 PM, Armory at Camp 17.
With Yuri's prior notice and Dmitry's final favor, Vorov, in an extremely rare move, allowed Ground Force to select a complete set of individual equipment from the armory.
He took off his tattered military uniform and put on a set of Russian military "Green Man" digital camouflage clothing. Considering that the clothes were relatively new, Lu Ye deliberately rubbed them.
Inside, he wore a 6B45 body armor vest, and outside the vest was a tactical carrying device.
When it came to weapon selection, he still chose the SVD sniper rifle that had made such a great contribution, but he recalibrated the PSO-1 optical sight on the rail.
Lu Ye picked out a short and powerful AKS-74U assault rifle from the weapon rack.
He skillfully folded the stock, screwed on the suppressor, wrapped the lanyard that might make a clanging sound with electrical tape, and then hung it on the quick-draw sling across his chest.
Because of the extremely complex internal structure of chemical plants, the SVD's excessively long barrel would be a fatal hindrance in close-quarters combat indoors.
A fully loaded MP-443 "Raven" semi-automatic pistol, loaded with 9x19mm armor-piercing rounds, was inserted into the tactical holster on his right thigh.
His chest magazine pouch was crammed full of four spare magazines;
On either side of the tactical belt were four F-1 fragmentation grenades and two RDG-2 smoke grenades;
A tactical knife with a blood groove was stuck upside down in the quick-release buckle on his left shoulder.
Finally, Lu Ye carefully placed the [Adrenaline] injection that he had redeemed from the system into the small first aid kit that was most easily accessible on the outside of his left arm.
Then, he put on tactical half-finger gloves, pulled up his tactical hood, leaving only his eyes exposed, pulled the bolt, and the sound of a bullet being chambered rang out.
Lu Ye strode out of the camp without hesitation and stepped into the dark night filled with death and murderous intent.
